Roy Ulysses Ward Jr. of 1113 Negley St., Farrell, passed this life at 2 a.m. Friday (11-14-13) in his home. He was 80.
Roy was born Feb. 9, 1933, to Roy U. Ward Sr. and Elanora Shy Stanton in Atlanta. He attended schools in Atlanta and Coatesville, Pa.
Roy served as a combat engineer in the Korean War. He also was a sergeant first class in the 635th Quartermaster Detachment 99th ARCOM, where he served in the reserves for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
He worked several years for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., and formerly was a Wheatland policeman. He also worked for First National Bank, retiring after 19 years of service.
Roy was a member of New Murray Bell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7597, Farrell. His hobbies included jazz music, golf, crossword puzzles and fishing.
Roy married Ella Mae Crosby Wells on Dec. 30, 1966. She died Sept. 10, 2011. To this union two sons were born: Patrick and Kenneth (Erin), both of Farrell. He and Ella also were instrumental in rearing Yvonne Penn (the Rev. Russell Jr.) of Hermitage; Ronnie McQueen (Sheila), Erie; Donald McQueen, Farrell; and Claudette McQueen, Erie; four grandchildren, David, Justin, Brittney and Brianna; and one great-grandchild, Christian.
He also leaves to cherish his memory a special friend, Sandra Campbell, Farrell, and her daughter Evonne Campbell, Sharon, and two step-grandchildren, Ramonica and Ramondo.
Surviving also are: Nick Rivera (Carol), Coatesville; and their daughter, Angela Cornish, Coatesville; her children; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy Ward Sr. and Elanora Stanton (George); his wife, Ella Mae; and a stillborn daughter, Eleanor, who died Jan. 6, 1970.
