William B. Gardner

Korean War vet was mechanic, Mason

- — William B. Gardner of 30 Flander Drive, Drums, Pa., passed away after an extended illness at 6:17 p.m. Friday (11-15-13) surrounded by family in the family homestead in Transfer. He was 82.

He was born Aug. 22, 1931, to William E. and Martha Blair Gardner in Glen Campbell, Pa.

William worked as a mechanic for Rowes Auto, Pymatuning Township.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Gilbert Islands.

On Aug. 21, 1952, he married the former Eleanor J. Briggs, who passed away June 26, 2005.

William was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Delaware Township. He also was a member of Sharpsville Masonic Lodge 517, where he was past master, serving in that capacity in 1979; Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, where he was a life member; and Freeland American Legion 473.

William enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family.

William is survived by: a daughter, Rosanne G. Harakal, Orlando, Fla.; a son, Walter B. Gardner and his wife Krista, Transfer; two sisters, Emma Jean Morrison of Greenville; and Jane Jeffries and her husband Thomas, Renton, Wash.; two brothers, David Gardner and his wife Mona Lee, Sharpsville; and Robert Gardner and his wife Sandra, Transfer; six grandchildren, Stefanie Cecconi, Charles Harakal, Cyril Harakal, Stanley Harakal, Sean Gardner and Jessica Mastropietro; six great-grandchildren; and 25 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his father, William E. Gardner; his mother, Martha Gardner; his wife, Eleanor J. Gardner; two infant sons, William Thomas Gardner and Richard Edward Gardner; two sisters, Shirley Voytik and Mary Greer; two brothers, George “Fred” Gardner and Howard Gardner; and a nephew, Billy Gardner.

Interment: Transfer Cemetery with full military honors by the Reynolds VFW Post 7599.
