Donald A. Stoddard

Missionary attended Covenant Presbyterian

- — Donald A. Stoddard of 441 S. Seventh St., Sharpsville, formerly of Bradenton, Fla., passed away at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, in the hospital of Jameson Health System in New Castle, after an extended illness. He was 86.

Mr. Stoddard was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Kikozi, Congo, Africa, a son of Jason E. and Alice Schofield Stoddard.

Ater graduating high school, he earned a bachelor of arts degree from Columbia (S.C.) Biblical University and went on to earn a master’s degree in Christian Education from Wheaton College in Illinois.

He worked as a missionary and teacher for TEAM in Pakistan for 38 years. Donald was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bradenton.

While living in the Sharpsville area since 2012, he attended Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon, where he sang in the Chancel Choir and was a member of the Couplers Sunday School Class.

On Sept. 10, 1955, he married Ruth K. McCully Stoddard, who survives at home.

Also surviving are: his two daughters, Virginia A. Long and her husband David, Ukhwi, Botswana, Africa; and Joy A. Johnston and her husband Thomas, Sharpsville; his son, Gene A. Stoddard and his wife Bonnie, West Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Stoddard, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Stoddard, both Palmetto, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
