OUR VIEW: Be careful – better yet, stay home

- — It has been with much sadness that we have had to report traffic-related injuries and deaths during this winter, one of the most harsh in memory.

During a whiteout last Thursday, accidents on Interstate 80 near Mercer caused portions of the interstate to be closed until debris was cleared.

With seemingly no end in sight of the snow, ice and cold, we urge area residents to heed of Mother Nature’s wrath, and stay off the roads if possible when winter storms are forecast or when road conditions are treacherous.

And if you’re driving that all-wheel drive SUV, keep in mind it may go in the snow but it will slide on ice just as badly as the family sedan.

If you must be out and snow squalls hamper your vsision, pull off the road when and where it is safe to do so. The life you save may be your own as well as that of another driver.
