Police, Fire from April 6, 2013

---- — Mercer County detectives

• William R Phibbs, 39, of Youngstown, turned himself in Thursday on a warrant charging him with theft, police said. Phibbs, owner of Rob Phibbs Roofing, took $4,000 to replace a roof in 2011 in Sharon and never did the work, police said.

• Josiah M. Stallsmith, 19, of 1861 Sandy Lake Grove City Road, Worth Township, has been charged with rape, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of a minor, sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and indecent assault for assaulting a girl when she was 15 to 18 over three years in his home, police said.

West Salem Township

• Firefighters were able to bring under control quickly a fire around the fireplace of a two-story home at 2 p.m. Friday at 141 N. Maysville Road, Fire Chief Tom Hunt Jr. said.

The blaze damaged the walls and floor around and under the fireplace, but the house is livable, he said.

The home is owned by the Schrock family and adjoins the men’s clothing business, Schrock Enterprises, Hunt said.

Greenville and Jamestown firefighters assisted.
