Police, Fire from April 24, 2012

---- — Hermitage

• A small amount of medication was stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Sandy Lane, said police, who were called at 9:35 p.m. Thursday.

• Medication, cigarettes, a wallet and a Nintendo game system were stolen from an apartment in the 400 block of Orange Drive, said police, who were called at 1:25 a.m. Friday. The resident was asleep on the couch at the time, police said.

• William R. Hughey III, 34, of 529 Oak St., Hermitage, was injured when a tree fell on him at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Robertson Road.

Hughey was flown to UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, police said. A message left with a hospital spokeswoman Monday was not returned.

Hughey was en employee of contractor Frank Schwartz, which had been hired to take the tree down, police said.

Hermitage firefighters assisted.

• Njiaha N. Gash, 30, of 211 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, has been charged with two counts each of misdemeanor retail theft and theft for selecting couch covers from Walmart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, and returning it at the service desk for gift cards last week, police said. She received a $249 gift card Thursday and a $265 gift card Wednesday, police said.

• Amber L. Moore, 21, of 410 Spruce Ave., Sharon, has been charged with theft for stealing 11 scratch-off lottery tickets April 8 from Tic Toc Food Mart, 4195 E. State St., where she worked, police said.

• Noel S. Huffman, 43, of Meadville, has been charged with summary retail theft and theft for selecting a vacuum cleaner and using a receipt for a vacuum from another store to get a $158 cash return at 10 a.m. March 13 at Walmart, 1275 North Hermitage Road, police said.


• Police said a car reported stolen from Warren, Ohio, was found at 4:52 a.m. Saturday on Sterling Avenue.

• Joshua Butler, 22, of 509 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon, was charged with possession of marijuana Friday after police were called for a dispute there, police said.

• Shaneka Alberty, 30, of 1007 Cedar Ave., Sharon, was charged with aggravated assault after she stabbed a man in the forearm with a kitchen knife shortly after midnight Thursday at her home, police said. He was treated at the hospital at Sharon Regional Health System for a two-inch cut, police said.

State police

• Police said they are investigating the report that a bad check for $1,746 was passed Dec. 30 at Flynn’s Tire and Auto Service, 7464 W. Market St., Lackawannock Township.

• Tools were stolen from an unlocked tool box on a truck parked for service between 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thursday at Esposito Auto Group, 1685 W. Main St., Pine Township, police said.

• Laura B. Hillman, 23, of Slippery Rock, has been cited with texting while driving, failing to notify police of an accident, a lane violation and a seat belt violation for hitting an embankment with her car, rolling over, hitting a tree and driving away at 2:25 a.m. Saturday on Mercer-Butler Pike southbound, Liberty Township, police said.
