Police, fire from June 24, 2014

- — Sharon

• Fire of undetermined cause Friday tore through a house undergoing renovation.

Firefighters from Sharon and Farrell got a call at 2:24 a.m. that the house at 842 New Castle Ave. was burning. They found it engulfed in flames when the first trucks arrived, said fire Chief Terry Whalen.

Owner Norman Crawford, who had insurance, had been remodeling the two-story house. The fire may have begun in the dining room but state police investigators will try to determine its point of origin as well as the cause over the next several weeks, Whalen said.

The remaining wreckage most likely will have to be torn down, he said.

No one was hurt but there was damage to nearby houses at 850 and 834 New Castle Ave., where heat melted vinyl siding and cracked some windows, Whalen said.
