• Interstate 80 westbound lanes were closed for two hours Friday, backing traffic up into Pennsylvania, after two tractor-trailers nearly crashed at 3:41 p.m. in Hubbard Township just east of Route 62, police said.

A tuck driven by Russell P. Lautanen, 43, of Jefferson, Ohio, was eastbound on the interstate when it drove off the road, across the median, and into the westbound lanes, police said. A westbound truck driven by Ilija Cepic, 59, from Canada, swerved right and both trucks struck the guardrail on the north side of I-80 west.

Police said it does not appear the trucks collided.

Both drivers, who were wearing seatbelts, sustained minor injuries; Cepic was taken to the hospital of St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

State police

• Two men known to police allegedly traded a handgun and shotgun at a home on North Perry Highway, Coolspring Township, and tried to transfer the license at a dealer Jan. 27 but were denied, police said.

The 9mm handgun was allegedly later bought by a 19-year-old man at Country Fair, Sharon, from a man other than the two who made the original trade, police said. The men will be charged with a firearms violation, police said.

• Someone stole a revolver from the center console of a Grove City man’s vehicle in the Grove City Medical Center parking lot, Pine Township, sometime between 5 a.m. and 3:50 p.m. Feb. 17, police said. The vehicle was locked but a frozen lock on one of the doors allowed it to be opened, police said.

• At 7 a.m. Friday, a truck driven by Maynard J. Ackerman, 80, of New Wilmington pulled out from a stop sign on Bethel-New Wilmington Road into the path of an SUV driven by Curtis R. Jacobsen, 56, of New Springfield, Ohio, on Pulaski-Mercer Road, police said.

The collision caused both vehicles to end up in a field, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, Ackerman was taken by ambulance to the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System for moderate injuries and Jacobsen went to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. Both men were wearing seatbelts, police said.
