• A Mercer man is accused of defrauding businesses in an advertising scam.

Wheeler, who doesn’t own a race car, was charged with theft and deceptive business practices, police said.
• Fire early Thursday destroyed a vacant house at 497 Logan Ave.
The blaze reported just before 1 a.m. gutted the house whose owner died several years ago, said fire Chief Terry Whalen.
Firefighters from Sharon and Farrell put out the fire and prevented its flames from damaging the adjoining house at 501 Logan, also vacant, he said.
There was no utility service to either house but Whalen said he wouldn’t speculate on the cause of the fire until an investigation is finished. No one was injured, he said.
