WESTERN PA —
The murder of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other Americans during a violent demonstration at the consulate in Benghazi prompted Third District Congressional candidates to weigh in Wednesday.
Neither incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly or his Democratic challenger made any overtly political comments in the statements they issued. Both expressed condolences to the families of those killed and then offered their takes on the situation.
“The senseless and unjustified attack on these innocent Americans was an attack on freedom loving people everywhere, and I strongly condemn this extreme act of intolerance and any efforts to diminish or defend it,” Kelly said.
“I denounce this attack on sovereign American territory and the loss of American life. The situation is rendered even more senseless, since the mission of our diplomatic teams is to work out differences between our country and others in a peaceful manner,” Eaton said.
