The sweet sounds of gospel music echoed across the Farrell hillside each evening this week during the annual street meeting conducted by the Evangelistic Ministry Team of New and Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.
The smells of hotdogs and hamburgers cooking on a grill wafted throughout Veterans Square, making the drizzle Wednesday night forgettable.
About a dozen people turned out to listen to the music and hear the preaching of Bishop Alvin J. McCoy, pastor of the sponsoring Lee Avenue church in Farrell, and the testimony of some of the church’s members.
It’s a ministry of love, church elder Sonja Theodore said.
“It’s about reaching out to the community, to show them love,” Ms. Theodore said.
Too often church members “stay within their four walls.”
This week’s street meeting is about bringing the message of the gospel to those who don’t go to church.
The sounds of the songs could be heard from Spearman up to Fruit Avenue.
Members of the church grilled food and handed out clothing to those in need.
Bishop McCoy said the aim of the meeting was to “repair the breach” between God and his people in the area.
