Hour of Power has gospel fest at First Presbyterian

FARRELL — Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle is growing and will conduct a major campaign for the building fund.
To kick off the effort, a “Gospel Performing Arts” festival will be presented at 6:30 p.m. today in First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon. Refreshments will be provided.
Tickets are $12.50 and are available by calling 724-347-6937.
Kingdom Embassy Prophetic Mime Ministry, a semi-professional group from Harrisburg; Angela Grace opera singer; and local talent will be featured.
Tickets are still available in Hour of Power and at the door.
Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle has served the Shenango Valley community for 32 years. The church is located at 946 Beechwood Ave., Farrell.
Interdenominational Clergy Women's to meet

FARRELL — Shenango Valley Interdenominational Clergy Women’s Alliance Inc. will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle 946 Beechwood Ave. The Rev. Lora Adams-King, newly named principal of Farrell High School and pastor of Erie Street Church of God, will speak.
Hickory U.M. Church sets praise, worship service

HERMITAGE — Hickory United Methodist Church will have a praise and worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the church at 240 N. Hermitage Road.
Tom Hunt to perform at Unity Presbyterian

LACKAWANNOCK TOWNSHIP — Trumpeter Tom Hunt will present special music at 11 a.m. service Sunday in Unity Presbyterian Church, 1857 Mercer-West Middlesex Road.
The graduate of Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music is a member of Brass Taxi, which plays in western Pennsylvania and across Ohio.
He presented a solo concert in June for Presbyterian Lay Committee “Faith in Life” conference at Waynesburg (Pa.) University. Hunt is often a guest soloist at area churches. His wife, Bobbi, often presents a narration during Hunt’s solo concerts. Info: 724-981-2377.
Greater Morris Chapel to honor Pastor Morris

FARRELL — A fellowship service at 11 a.m. Sunday in Greater Morris Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 926 Darr Ave., will honor Pastor Marvin Phillip Morris in his retirement.
Pastor Keith Banks and members of Pentecostal House of Prayer in Farrell will participate. Pastor Banks will preach and the host church’s choir will sing.
Community Baptist concluding celebration

FARRELL — Community Missionary Baptist Church will conclude its celebration of Pastor and Sister Elizabeth Chavers’ 44th pastoral anniversary starting with morning worship Sunday in the church at 1013 Emerson Ave.
Rev. Jimmie Lee Wilder will speak. Bishop Alvin McCoy and the family of Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Farrell will end the celebration at 4 p.m. The annual Pastor’s Fellowship Dinner is set for 6 p.m. Monday. Dress is casual.
New Light Baptist group marking annual day

SHARON — The Out-Reach Mission of New Light Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its annual day at 4 p.m. Sunday in the church at 170 Sharpsville Ave.
The service is titled “Equipped for the Journey.” Seven missionaries and deacons from valley churches will participate. Sister Learlean Sanders will be guest soloist.
Second Baptist Church prepares for concert

SHARPSVILLE — The Gospel Change of Farrell, the Male Chorus of New Bethel Church of Youngstown and other special guests will be in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in Second Baptist Church, 10 Walnut St.
CROP Walk recruiters’ meeting slated

HERMITAGE — Kathy Clark of Church World Service’s CROP Walk office will be speaker at the Recruiters’ Meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road.
Christian Associates of the Shenango Valley is walk sponsor. A representative of each valley church is invited to attend. Representatives will hear a talk by Ms. Clark and receive posters, walker kits and other promotional materials.
The walk will be 2 p.m. Oct. 5 starting at Christ Lutheran Church, 396 Buhl Blvd., Sharon. The route is through Buhl Farm park, Hermitage.
Funds raised will be used to feed the hungry in the United States and abroad. Each year 25 percent of the amount raised is returned to the valley and is equally distributed among Mercer County Food Warehouse, Prince of Peace Center, Episcopal Community Services and Meals on Wheels.
Lakeview COG offering parking, entertainment

SANDY LAKE TOWNSHIP — Lakeview Church of God, 2479 Mercer St. (Route 62), is offering free parking during the Stoneboro Fair. The church at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 in the parking lot, also is presenting live entertainment by Getting Towards Gone. There also will be free food.
WM Methodist slates evening tea, performance

WEST MIDDLESEX — An evening tea is planned for 6 p.m. Sept. 13 in West Middlesex United Methodist Church, 3123 Main St.
“Queen Esther,” as depicted in first-person by Luella Krieger, will be performed. The $6 cost includes lunch. Proceeds will go to Ms. Krieger for her traveling ministry. She also will be part of Sunday worship service at 11 a.m. Sept. 14. An offering will be taken.
David Bailey concerts set at pair of local churches

SHENANGO VALLEY — UPMC Horizon and the Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church in Sharon will present performances by David Bailey at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 in First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon; and Sept. 17 in St. Michael’s Church, 85 N. High St., Greenville.
He is a singer, songwriter and cancer survivor. The son of Presbyterian missionaries Ken and Ethel Bailey of New Wilmington spent his childhood in Beirut, Lebanon.
The Lebanese civil war forced him to complete high school at a boarding school in Germany, where he spent weekends as a street musician.
In 1996, doctors told Mr. Bailey he had a malignant brain tumor and had only a few months to live. He left his corporate job and returned to songwriting and performing. Since then, he has shared his hope and music with thousands of listeners worldwide.
Both concerts are free and open to the public, but a freewill offering will be collected with proceeds from the Sharon concert going to the American Cancer Society and proceeds from the Greenville concert going to the UPMC Horizon Oncology Patient Care Fund.
Youngstown Diocese sets wedding celebration

CANTON, Ohio — Catholic Diocese of Youngstown’s Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry office is sponsoring a wedding anniversary celebration at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 in St. John the Baptist Church, Canton.
Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., will celebrate Mass. Couples celebrating their 25th, 40th, 50th or more years of marriage will renew their vows and receive a personalized certificate signed by Bishop Murry. A reception for the couples and their families will follow in the church’s social hall.
Couples in the diocese can register by Sept. 29 in their church.
