Father-son preachers, falconers set for banquet
VIENNA – Liberty Bible Church, 2111 Sodom Hutchings Road, will hold a sportsman’s banquet featuring Howard and Jason Caldwell at 6:30 p.m. March 7.
The father-son duo are second- and third-generation preachers and fourth- and fifth-generation hunters. They participate in the ancient hunting practice of falconry, taking wild game or quarry with a trained bird of prey. There are some 4,000 licensed falconers in the United States, regulated by state and federal government.
Seven years ago the Caldwells started “Seeing Truth Ministries,” a local church ministry sent out by Lighthouse Baptist Church in Winchester, Va. They present the gospel with visual aids at revivals, vacation Bible schools, church camps and other events.
The program will feature live birds of prey and door prizes. Tickets providing free admission are required and available in the church office or by calling 1-330-638-1578. The program is intended for more mature children; childcare will not be provided.
Sharon evangelist slated for World Day of Prayer
HERMITAGE – Evangelist Adrian Jones of Sharon will speak on the subject of “The Living Waters” during Church Women United in the Shenango Valley’s celebration of World Day of Prayer. The service is set for 1:30 p.m. March 8 in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave. The public is invited.
The year’s theme, “Streams in the Desert,” was prepared by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Egypt. It focuses on water justice, girls’ access to education, multifaith dialogue and migration, poverty and refugees in Egypt.
Those attending are reminded this will be their last chance to bring nearly new pocketbooks for the state “Change Purse Project.” Installation of this year’s officers and approval of the budget also are planned. Refreshments will follow.
Offering will be sent in its entirety to the WDP-USA committee for grants to nonprofit organizations.
Marriage Encounter Weekends scheduled
WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA – Two Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends have been scheduled in the region during Lent.
The first weekend is March 21-23 in Erie at Quality Inn at Exit 18 off Interstate 90; the second for April 4-6 in Cranberry Township, Butler County, at Four Points Sheraton off Interstate 79 or the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
A non-refundable $75 application fee and a free-will offering at the sessions continue the work of WWME. Space is limited.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter of Western Pennsylvania is a faith-based marriage enrichment outreach in four Catholic dioceses, including Erie. Couples of all faiths are welcome.

Life’s hardships can lead us right into path of God’s providence
Early on in ministry, there came an experience I would be glad to have never again in this life. Having been called by a young husband to come, I drove into the driveway of a modest home in a quiet neighborhood. The caller’s wife answered my knock at the door – her face ashen, a look of horror in her eyes. She rushed into my arms, blurting out the words, “Oh Pastor, my baby is dead!”

Winter weariness can get us down but God brings relief
Have you noticed the exhausted, out-of-gas energy levels residents are displaying these days? There are less than 30 days left of this long, very cold winter. Residents are winter weary from the relentless snow storms and cold spells that seem to be coming back to back. We’re all suffering from cabin fever and the effects of restricted sunlight. Counselors refer to the human impact of this season as SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder.
