It doesn’t take long to realize common sense is no longer the standard in the good ol’ U.S. of A. when we read news headlines about kindergartners. Within the last two weeks, I read two separate headlines about tiny tyrants who were simply involved in childhood fun.
One little kindergarten boy had his cupcakes confiscated during his lunch period because they were decorated with tiny, plastic green army men. An elementary school student was suspended because he nibbled his Pop-Tart pastry into the shape of a gun and allegedly pointed it at a classmate.
Men and women, where is the world has common sense gone? This is insanity in a world where we murder thousands of children each day in their mothers’ wombs and three out of five children under the age of 18 have been sexually abused. When only one out of every three graduating students will find a job – if, of course, they can read and write. But I bet they can name all the characters on TV shows. Where has common sense gone? Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
There are two ways to live in this life – the wrong way and the right way. The right way is according to the statutes found in God’s Word. The wrong way is according to our own carnal, humanistic desires of the flesh. In America, we have thrown out the Ten Commandments, walking in our own way. What is our final destination? Proverbs 14:34 says death. The economic insanity of spending more than your make – financial death. The moral insanity of same-sex marriages – death of the family. The political insanity of socialism – death of freedom. Before our very eyes we are witnessing the death of common sense.
Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” If you look through the annals of American history, you will see that when the Ten Commandments were part of our society, we experienced unprecedented success. In less than 200 years we went from building colonies to being the world leader economically, politically and socially. Today we have a president who proudly announces America is no longer a Christian nation. Our schools have banned the Ten Commandments from their classrooms. We have numerous laws regarding the separation of church and state and yet our leaders continue to push for same-sex marriages. The outcome is that America is no longer prosperous, no longer the world leader, no longer morally or spiritually sound.
Psalms 9:17 says, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Does that not describe America and many other nations as well? Where has common sense gone? Where has our integrity gone? We are currently battling for the very soul of our nation and we are being run by a system that clearly demonstrates a lack of common sense to such a degree that it is unconscionable. We borrow more than we make. We consume more than we produce. We talk about the evils of energy and natural resources in our environment, yet not enough can even graduate to become engineers to make a difference.
Doesn’t it make sense to stop this moral, social and financial insanity? Doesn’t it make sense to return to the ethics and virtuous values that can make this country strong again? We should put an end to the stupidity of political correctness and start calling things as they are – wrong and right. If you are a child of God – not all are; we are all creations of God but not all children of God until we ask Jesus Christ into our hearts – we need to hold ourselves to the standards Jesus Christ would expect from us because there are no excuses for the Child of God. We must start using common sense, godly sense, and strive for righteousness in all that we say and do. We must challenge ourselves each day to bring godliness back to our homes, neighborhoods, our communities, our nation.
