3 sites set for National Day of Prayer Thursday

MERCER COUNTY — The 63rd Annual National Day of Prayer is Thursday and local public observances are scheduled in Grove City, Greenville and Hermitage.

• Grove City’s event will be at Highland Pavilion in Grove City Memorial Park on West Main Street. A service is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Grove City Rotary Club.

For more information, call Pastor Pam Schnelzer, 724-992-9196.

• Greenville’s event, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Greenville, will take place in Central Park on Main Street, with music by Ira Whitney at 11:30 a.m. and prayers beginning at noon. Prayer subjects will include local, county, state, national and international governments; and families, schools, businesses, media, churches and military forces around the world.

A pizza and salad lunch will be provided in Fellowship Hall of Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ; an offering will be accepted for the meal. In case of rain, the service will be held in the church.

• Hermitage’s event will be from noon to 1 p.m. in Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, next to the Shenango Valley Mall. Fourteen pastors and lay leaders will participate. The Rev. Cherrie Andres will lead the service and recording artist Linda Weber will sing.

This year’s theme is “One Voice, United in Prayer.” It is based on Romans 15:6: “So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Emphasis will be on prayer for nation, state, county and community.

Policemen, firemen, emergency personnel, service members, and school and elected officials are invited to represent their occupations.

Honorary chairman is Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of Billy Graham.

The National Day of Prayer also will serve to start a revival-focused initiative sponsored by the event task force, “Pray for America Rally Bus Tour II,” which will conclude Oct. 1 in California at a five-day prayer gathering.
