Valley Alive set outdoors under tent

SHARON — The annual Valley Alive crusade will be taking to a different venue this year.

The “Valley Alive Festival Under the Tent” is set for Sept. 21 in the rear parking lot of Quaker Steak & Lube in Downtown Sharon. The evening of praise and worship intended to bring people of the Christian faith together under a tent will run from 6 to 9 p.m.

This year’s event falls in the middle of the Feast of Tabernacles when the nomadic Israelites erected a tent in the wilderness to pray for the glory of God to appear.

The program will include Victory Christian Center Praise Team led by Pastor Ben Fleet and Allison Thomas, Penny Eldridge Harris and Kingdom Worship, Heaven Sent Worship Team from Touch Heaven in Canfield, Ohio. Pastor Samuel Torres and Minister Kent Barnes Jr. from Touch Heaven will speak.

In years past, Valley Alive was held in high school auditoriums. The outdoors, tent setting was common for revivals that included the 1908 gatherings in May and June of Evangelist Billy Sunday, who came to Sharon and preached on the corner of Silver and Vine streets.

Theme is “Let Your Light Shine,” based on Matt. 5:14, where Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
