ä Grove City 15, Commodore Perry 0 (4 inn.) — At Grove City Memorial Park, the Eagles (6-6 District 10 Region 4-AAA, 8-10 overall) kept their flickering playoff hopes alive with the win over the Panthers (3-8 in Region 4-AAA).

Grove City is currently tied for 3rd place in the region with Franklin (6-6) and Slippery Rock (6-6) behind Hickory (12-0) and Meadville (10-2). The Eagles hold a tiebreaker over the Knights by virtue of their season sweep of the Venango County squad, but the Rockets swept the Eagles. Slippery Rock plays Oil City and Titusville next week; Grove City has Titusville and Meadville, and Franklin still has Commodore Perry and Hickory left on the schedule.

The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead on the strength of back-to-back home runs from Garrett Molloy and Garrett Herald. Molloy’s blast also scored Ryan Devine, who doubled. Grove City tacked on 6 more tallies in the 2nd on a 2-run Casey Shay round-tripper and three CP miscues. Two more runs crossed the plate in the 3rd, and the final 3 runs scored in the 4th with 1 out.

Molloy led Grove City’s offense with a homer, double and 3 RBIs; Shay tacked on a homer, single and 3 RBIs; Derek Forese ripped 2 singles and drove in 2 runs, and Devine singled, doubled and scored 4 times. Jimmy McConnell, Rudy Retort and Mark Revesz were credited with an RBI. Revesz picked up the win, surrendering just 2 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 1.

Scott Pinney and Josh Forbes doubled to lead the Panthers. Josh Cashdollar was saddled with the loss, allowing 10 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in 2 innings. Kyle Myers worked the final 2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. — By Allied News sports editor Corey J. Corbin.

ä Sharon 11, Sharpsville 0 (5 inn.) — At Johnny Pepe Field, senior southpaw Alex Senak stymied Sharpsville on 4 scattered hits, only one of which went for extra bases, Matt Musser’s double.

Senak (5-0) struck out 9 and walked 1 during his route-going effort, and also aided his own cause by singling, doubling and plating a pair of runs. Also for Sharon (12-0, region, 15-0 overall), Cory Johnson jolted a grand-slam home run to highlight a 3-for-4 plate performance and also had an RBI-single. Also, Mike Tomko doubled twice and singled, Zach Kepple connected for a solo shot, and Sammy Schweiss singled twice.

Sharpsville starter Ryan Lindberg lasted 2 innings and allowed 8 hits and 5 earned runs, whiffing 1 and walking 1.

ä Hickory 9, Slippery Rock 1 — At Slippery Rock, right-handed Hornets’ hurler Jordan Wilds twirled a complete-game 1-hitter, allowing only Ryan Ferguson’s 2nd-inning single. Wilds whiffed 1 and walked 4.

Also for Hickory (12-0 region, 16-0 overall), Taylor Englebaugh scorched a solo shot, single and plated a pair; David Schafer stroked a single and triple; Jaymee Shephard smacked 2 singles, a triple and drove in 3 runs, Brian Szabo singled and doubled, and Chris Ferreri contributed a pair of hits.

Slippery Rock starter Joey Hemphill also went the distance, but permitted 9 runs on 11 hits and 2 walks, though he fanned 5.

ä Reynolds 5, West Middlesex 4 — At Transfer, the 7th-inning Raiders’ magic continued as Reynolds (7-5, 7-7) beat the Big Reds by plating 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th. Mike Bodnar’s double scored Luke Perrine with the winner.
