Chadderton shining in motocross; Lehberger to Westminster; candidates sought for WMHS Hall of Fame

Brandon Chadderton, 12, of Mercer is making a name for himself in the sport of motocross.

Chadderton, who looks exactly like former motocross star Ricky Carmichael did at his age, races in the Junior Trail Bike Division.

The racing for that division began in January, but Brandon didn’t even start competing until April and he already has taken over the top spot in the division. The young racer travels throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio as a CRA (Competition Rider of America) rider.

After losing his father, Gary, last July — the one who really got Brandon involved in racing — his mother has stepped forward and made her husband’s dream for Brandon come true.

Brandon has been featured on the website for Pymatuning Holeshot Raceway in Linesville, his home track, and has been featured several times in the CRA newspaper. Brandon has earned over 50 trophies and plaques since last season, according to information submitted by Brandon’s friends.

Brandon is currently seeking sponsorship. To contact him, e-mail mxbrandon4@yahoo.com.

ä Wilmington High star swimmer Caitlin Lehberger is following in her brother’s footsteps. Lehberger, the District 10 swimmer of the year and an All-Amercan in the 100-yard breaststroke, will continue her education and swimming career at Westminster College.

Lehberger is a 3-time District 10 champion in the 200 individual medley and a 2-time D-10 titlist in the 100 breaststroke. She placed 2nd at the recent PIAA Championships in the 100 breaststroke and was 6th in the 200 IM.

She is the daughter of Robert and Robin Lehberger. Her brother, Chris, is an All-American swimmer for the Titans.

ä The West Middlesex High School Athletic Hall of Fame is asking the community to participate in the selection of the 2nd class of inductees. Nomination forms are now being accepted. The deadline is Aug. 15. Any forms submitted after that date will be kept on file for future considerations. The induction ceremony will be held during the annual Kiwanis Club Christmas Tournament.

Recommendations will be placed on file and will be considered for the next 5 years. After 5 years, if an individual has not been selected for induction, the application will be withdrawn from the files and must be re-submitted.

Candidates who, through their involvement in athletics while at WMHS, have brought pride and honor to themselves and to their communities are eligible for consideration. Coaches are not eligible until they have retired from coaching in their sport. On the nomination form, evidence of accomplishments and honors must be provided. Whenever possible, sources should be provided. For example, “All-State” should include the source (AP or UPI) and the year the honor was earned. Copies of newspaper articles, yearbooks, media guides, certificates, etc., should back statistical information, including record-setting performances.

The following criteria will be used for the evaluation of a nominee:

´´ The nominee’s degree of recognition as a WMHS athlete, coach, administrator or active supporter with alumni and the general public.

´´ The significance or stature of the nominee’s accomplishments as determined by statistical records, contribution to a program and/or the number and stature of the awards received.
