FARRELL HIGH graduate Latoya Locke recently announced her intention to continue her education at Thiel College.

Locke also plans to major in biology and compete as a member of the Tomcats’ volleyball and track and field programs. A 3-year letterwinner in both sports at Farrell, Locke is the daughter of Melvin and Susan Locke.

ä Sharon High School graduate Zachary Revale will also be attending Thiel this fall. Revale plans to compete as a member of the Tomcat baseball program under seventh-year head coach Joe Schaly.

Revale, the son of Lennie and Kim Revale, was a two-year letterwinner for the Tigers.

ä Slippery Rock University defensive end Cory Lacek and offensive tackle Mike Butterworth, a pair of juniors, have been named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette preseason All-America team.

Last season Lacek led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and finished 4th in NCAA Division II in quarterback sacks (12) and was 4th in the PSAC and 15th nationally in tackles for lost yardage (15). He was named first-team All-Northeast Region by both Hansen’s Gazette and Daktronics (SIDs), and he and Butterworth both were selected first-team All-PSAC Western Division, also.

Eighteen returning starters will lead Dr. George Mihalik’s SRU contingent into the season opener, Aug. 31 against Youngstown State University at Stambaugh Stadium.

ä SRU baseball coach Jeff Messer announced Rich Pasquale has been added to The Rocks’ coaching staff.

Pasquale was 96-76-2 during a 4-season stint as head coach at LaRoche College, a program that had won only 24 of 158 games during the 5-season span preceding his arrival. He led LaRoche to back-to-back Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoff berths after 28- and 24-win seasons, and was named by his peers as the 2004 AMCC coach of the year.

Prior to his LaRoche appointment, he served as an assistant at both the University of Pittsburgh (1999-02) and Penn State University-Beaver (1996-98). He was an NAIA honorable-mention All-American at Francis Marion University (S.C.) in 1990.

ä Westminster College’s men’s and women’s track and field teams received recognition from the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association’s NCAA Division III All-Academic team.

Teams must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher to qualify, and Westminster was the only school from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference recognized. The Lady Titans were one of 50 in the nation and the Titans one of 31.
