Many college and pro sports teams have their own personal broadcasters for radio or television. Those teams have nothing over the Sharon High football Tigers.

Freshman Alex Cunningham videotaped and broadcast Sharon games live over the Internet this past season and it was a big hit with Sharon fans around the country and world who obviously can’t attend the games.

“We’ve had viewers all across the country,” said Alex, a gifted student in Eric Wenger’s class at Sharon and son of Guy and Mary Carol Cunningham.

“We had one from Bosnia and coach (Bob) Fromm’s brother from Georgia.”

He got his start a two years ago when head coach Fromm, who teaches the gifted program for 10th through 12th graders, asked Cunningham to do some video stuff and he started doing highlights.

“I kind of developed it last year, broadcasting games,” he said. “This is the first year I did it live; last year started with tapes. It’s a lot better live.”

Alex works out of the press box, using a WiFi extender to get a better connection. The extender was made by his dad, Guy, a civil engineer. The broadcasts can be picked up at www.mogulus.com/sharontigersfootball.

“The team really appreciates it,” said Fromm. “Sharon fans who live in other areas can follow the Tigers. We’ve had a lot of comments about it. Alex does a nice job.”

An Academics Games state champion last year, Alex said he is now working on some future items like post-game interviews. He is also considering doing some other sports-team broadcasts and spoke to Principal Len Rich about the possibility.

“I have a friend (Joe Stanek) who might be a color commentator,” said Alex. “I’ve joked around about broadcasting other things. We’ve talked about a talent show.”
