Region 3 Mega-Match


Grove City senior Matt Gordon was named the region player of the year following Tuesday’s final mega-match at Wanango Country Club near Oil City. Gordon fired a 76 to earn medalist honors while Warren’s Andrew Gignac shot a 77.

Region 2 Mega-Match

Hickory fired a 331 to win the event at Tanglewood Golf Course in Pulaski. West Middlesex had a 352, Sharon 363, Wilmington 375 and Sharpsville shot a 376.

Hickory leads the Region 2 standings with 20 points, followed by WM (15), Sharon (13), Sharpsville (6) and Wilmington (6).

Hickory’s Ross Rosati earned medalist honors by carding a 78. Riley Atterholt led Middlesex with an 84, Louis Wareham and Chris Franek shot 90s for Sharon, Nate Anthony had an 85 for the Hounds and Johnny Wolfe and Nate Hawthorne shot 92s for Sharpsville.

Colbert recorded an eagle on the 14th hole.

On the par-36, 3,180-yard front nine at Tam O’Shanter, the visiting Trojans (2-3) triumphed, led by Colton McCright’s 40. He shared medalist honors with KC’s Teddy Haaz.

It was the 1st setback of the season for Kennedy Catholic (5-1).

At Oil City, Emma Levitt, assisted by Ashlyn Zajac, scored the match’s lone goal to lift the visiting Lady Tigers to the road triumph. Also for Sharon (1-2), goalkeeper Kelsie McGranahan garnered 9 saves.

Oil City fell to 0-4.

ä West Middlesex 6, Maplewood 0 — At West Middlesex Monday, the Ms. Reds prevailed in a match delayed by lightning.

Molly Stonebraker and Searra McElrath each scored 2 goals for West Middlesex (2-1), while Riley Lyons and Kaitlyn Beck had one each. Gretch Elsey, Stonebraker and Jordan Pape had assists. Brianna Spencer had 5 saves in goal for her 2nd shutout. Kayla Ballard was cited for outstanding defensive play.

ä Grove City 2, Mercer 0 — At Forker Field, Grove City, on Monday, the Lady Eagles’ Kalie Davis and Kristen Bishop scored goals, while Julie DiStasi had an assist. Goalkeeper Olivia Andrews pitched the shutout.

At Lamor Road Field Monday night, Chase Hoffman and Matt Juergens had goals for the Mustangs. The other score was an “own” goal by GC.

At Buhl Farm Park, the host Lady Golden Eagles eased to a trio of straight-sets wins by Bekah Kish and Abby Lenhart and 2nd and 3rd singles, and the No. 1 doubles duo of Avi Danta and Jillian Dunn.

Alanna Elliot, at 1st singles, and the tandem of Lydia Zoeller-Taylor Kish won for Wilmington.

ä Hickory 18, Reynolds 45 — At Hermitage, Kyle Boyd (18:38) and Logan Griffen finished 1-2 for the Hornets (2-0), while Justin Pago placed 3rd for Reynolds.

ä Grove City 18, Slippery Rock 42 — At Grove City’s Memorial Park, the host Eagles (1-0) swept 9 of the top-10 berths, led by winner Aaron Benka (16:33).

ä West Middlesex 20, Jamestown 41 — At Pymatuning State Park, Big Reds’ senior Levi Canon clocked in at 18:28, 1 second ahead of teammate David Johnson as WM topped the Muskies. Christian McElhaney finished 3rd for Jamestown.
