- — Pouncing like the Panthers they are. Commodore Perry High boys basketball team shocked Sharpville Friday night.

Perry procured an early 9-1 edge and CP seemed primed for the District 10 inter-region road win.

However the big three for the host Blue Devils did their damage during the 2nd half, as Sharpsville surged to a 64-44 success.

At Red Johnston Gymnasium, Sage Barringer bucketed a game-high 26 points, Greg Popatak produced a game-high 20-point, 12-rebound double-double, and Kyle Kennedy contributed a 10-point, 5-rebound, 4-assist line.

Led by Barringer’s 13-point 1st-half, Sharpsville secured a 26-23 margin at intermission as visiting CP shot only 8 for 23.

Then during the 2nd half the Blue Devils’ trio took turns pounding the Panthers. Popatak popped in 11 fourth-period points for Class AA Sharpsville (7-8).

Though Head Coach Jon Hildebran implored his Panthers to produce 4 periods of consistent play, they instead shot 8 for 22 from the floor and committed 6 of their 17 miscues.

Bolstered by Barringer (4 for 6) and Popatak (4 for 5), Sharpsville shot 13 for 20 from the field during the 2nd half, and 22 for 49 (44.8 percent). Also, led by Popatak, the Panthers were pounded, 39-25, on the boards and the Blue Devils did not turn over the ball, ending with only 10.

For Class A Commodore Perry (7-8), Jeremiah Small scored 13 and hauled down a handful of rebounds, and Cody Beachy brokered a team-high 10-point, 9-rebound, 3-assist line. Sean Britton paced the Panthers with a half-dozen caroms and Phil Stringert dished out 3 assists.
