Roundup: Hounds, Hornets notch track sweeps

ä Wilmington 116, Reynolds 44 —
At New Wilmington, the host Lady Hounds were led by Rikki Brumbaugh (4x8, 4x4 relay legs, 400- and 800-meter runs); Hannah Drake (long, triple jumps, 4x4 relay); Allison Baldwin (4x8 and 4x4 relay legs); Lexi Brumbaugh (1600-, 3200-meter runs, distance-relay leg), and Tessa Sikora (high jump, 200-meter dash, sprint-relay anchor).

Brooke Bresnan bested the field in the high hurdles and javelin for Reynolds.

ä Hickory 125, Sharon 24 — At Hornet Stadium, Hermitage, host Hickory (2-0) was led by Lexie Bible (800, 1600, distance-relay leg), Jackie Abraham (3200--meter run, 4x8 and 4x1 relays), Heather Grober (intermediate hurdles, 200), and Katie Gustas (high, long jumps). Also, Madison Bell (high hurdles, sprint-relay leg).

ä Lakeview 112, Commodore Perry 28; Lakeview 88, Sharpsville 57; Mercer 89, Lakeview 56 — At Stoneboro, the host Lady Sailors swept 2 of 3 duals.

Lakeview was led by thrower Caitlin Casciotti, hurdler Tia Ray and sprinter Taylor Reed. Distance ace Shae Grinnell paced Commodore Perry, while hurdler Megan McKinney muscled Mercer to a win, aided by thrower Katie Brest, versatile Brown and distance standout Burdette.

ä John F. Kennedy 37, Kennedy Catholic 23 — At Warren, Emann Yacoub took 1st place in the 300 hurdles as KC suffered a loss.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

ä Wilmington 95, Reynolds 55 —
At New Wilmington, Jared Masters and Dwight Scott were triple-event winners in leading the Hounds past the Raiders.

Masters won the 800, 1600 and ran the opening leg of the 1st-place 3200-meter relay team while Scott copped the 200, 300 hurdles and was part of the foursome that won the 400 relay.

Brett Whitty, Cody Cooper, Stefan Pontius, Kyle Slicker, Moses Morris and David Perrine were double-event winners for Wilmington.

Ryan McQuown (100), Curt Fowler (400), Austin Moffett (discus) and Tyler Gangloff (pole vault) earned wins for Reynolds.

ä Hickory 122, Sharon 27 — At Hornet Stadium, Hermitage, Matt Voytik (100, sprint-relay anchor), Luke Lewis (shot, disc), Kyle Boyd (1600, 3200, distance-relay leg), Bobby Marzano (intermediates, 4x1 and 4x4  legs) and Jordan Shimmin (long, triple jumps) led the host Hornets (2-0).

Thompson tallied Tigers’ triumphs in the 200- and 400-meter dashes for Sharon.

ä Lakeview 107.5, Mercer 42.5; Lakeview 128, Sharpsville 13; Lakeview 129, Commodore Perry 12 — At Stoneboro, Tanner and Blake Reddick, Connor Stankovich and Zach VanDusen were triple-event winners as the Sailors (4-0) earned 3 wins.

All 4 made up the winning 400 and 1600 relay teams, while Tanner Reddick also ran on the 3200-meter relay team, Blake Reddick won the 400, Stankovich copped the 800 and VanDusen won the long jump.

Jared Davis swept the hurdles for Mercer and also won the 100-meter dash. CP did not field a full team.

ä Kennedy Catholic 72, Warren JFK 37 — At Warren, Michael Kifer grabbed wins in 3 events for the Golden Eagles.

Kifer copped the 1600- and 3200-meter runs and also ran the anchor leg on the 1st-place 3200-meter relay squad.

BOYS TENNIS

ä Hickory 5, Sharon 0 —
At Hermitage, the Hornets improved to 3-0 in Region 1 and 3-3 overall with the sweep of the Tigers.

Singles: Ross Rosati (H) def. Dylan Cerroni, 6-0, 6-0; John Smaltz (H) def. Skylar Villegas, 6-0, 6-0; Michael Funera (H) def. Luke Rueberger, 6-1, 6-0. Doubles: Zach Walters-Alex Georgescu (H) def. Andy Rauch-Andrew Campbell, 6-0, 6-0; Stephen Petrochko-Mark Dzapo (H) def. Aaron Martwinski-Joey Zajac, 6-2, 6-4.

ä Grove City 3, Titusville 2 — At Titusville, the visiting Eagles (1-1, 5-1) eeked out the win by sweeping the doubles competition, led by the tandems of Andrew McCracken-Frankie Bassani and Tanner McKnight-Steven Shi.

Singles: Eric McGinnis (T) def. Chris Adams, 6-2 7-6(1); Evan Lowers (GC) def. Shannon Daugherty, 6-1, 6-0; Harland Kester (T) def. Jacob Shilling, 6-1 6-3. Doubles: McCracken-Bassani (GC) def. Chase Upchurch-Ava Young, 6-1, 6-1; McKnight-Shi (GC) def. Cameron Daugherty-Ben Snyder, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

SOFTBALL

ä West Middlesex 16, Commodore Perry 0 (4 inn.) —
At Sheaklevyille, Jordyn Allen and Tori Roth collaborated on a perfect — albeit abbreviated — game. Allen struck out all 9 hitters she faced.

Also, Allen singled and doubled, Aly Andrusky added a home run, single and drove in 3 runs, Olivia Slater slammed a round-tripper, and Hannah Havens had 2 hits for West Middlesex (1-0 region, 2-1 overall).

Brittany Shrock suffered the setback for Commodore Perry (0-1, 1-3).

ä Wilmington 6, Sharon 3 (10 inn.) — At Sharon recently, the Lady Greyhounds won the extra-inning contest.

A.Crawford had a pair of hits, including a double for Sharon, while Kelsie McGranahan also doubled. Maggie Torr, Kelsie McGranahan and Kristina Jacoway had stolen bases.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

ä Beaver County Christian 3, Farrell 1 —
At E.J. McCluskey Gymnasium, the Steelers (1-2) suffered a 25-14, 25-14, 26-28, 25-19 loss to BCC, which is ranked 3rd in the WPIAL in Class AA.
