ä Slippery Rock 89.5, Hickory 50.5 —
Recently at Slippery Rock, the visiting Hornets concluded the dual-meet campaign at 3-3 in the region and overall.

Josh Jones swept the 800- and 1600-meter runs and contributed to a pair of Slippery Rock’s winning relays, while Shane Kirkwood copped the 200- and 400-meter dashes and Porter produced a pair of wins in the long and triple jumps.

Matt Voytik (100, sprint-relay anchor) and Evan Blaire (shot, disc), as well as Bobby Marzano (high, intermediate hurdles) led Hickory.

˝ Hickory High co-Head Coach Barb Dzuricsko noted there were 2 school standards set during the recent Mercer County Invitational.

Luke Lewis put the shot 65-6 1/4 to surpass his own record — set earlier this season — by approximately 4 feet.

Also, the Lady Hornets’ sprint-relay foursome posted a 50.31 clocking.

“Quite amazing!” Dzuricsko praised.

The team of Nikki Arbanas, Lauren Bell, Victoria Russo and Heather Grober collaborated to surpass the 2003 mark (50.54) set by the quarter of Tara Mooney, Dana Gaines, Cheré Marshall and Cathy Powell. That foursome placed 7th at that spring’s PIAA Class AA Championships, Dzuricsko recalled.
