Roundup: Hickory diamondmen beat WM; Mercer's Cameron fires no-hitter

ä Hickory 5, West Middlesex 1 —
At West Middlesex, Mark DiBattiste fired a complete-game 6-hitter with 7 strikeouts and no walks in leading the Hornets (3-5) past the Big Reds.

Brooks Pletcher tripled for Hickory, Anthony Cannone and Jake Andrzesewski both doubled and Brady Leunis had 2 singles.

Mark Colella and Riley Atterholt pitched for WM. Colella went 4 innings with 6 strikeouts, 3 walks and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits. Atterholt closed it out with 2 Ks, 2 walks and 2 runs on 4 hits.

At the plate for the Big Reds, Trey Staunch ripped a pair of doubles and Sage Pope had 2 singles.

GIRLS SOFTBALL

ä Mercer 4, Sharon 0 —
At Brandy Springs Park in Mercer, Allie Cameron fired a no-hitter as coach Jack Trott’s Lady M’s (4-2) blanked Sharon.

Cameron struck out 11 batters, walked 4 and hit 1 with a pitch.

Analise Whenry led Mercer at the plate with a single, double and triple and Ashley Ryder ripped 2 singles.

Gabby Gadola was tagged with the loss for the Lady Tigers. She fanned 1, issued 1 walk and gave up 9 hits.

ä Wilmington 2, James-town 1 — At Jamestown, Abby Sotter outdueled Erynn Williams.

Sotter struck out 9 and did not issue a base on balls in firing a complete-game 4-hitter. Sotter smashed a solo shot in the 6th, giving the Lady Greyhounds (2-0 region, 6-0 overall) a 2-0 edge.

But in the 7th she had to strand the potential game-tying run afte Nicole McElhaney muscled an RBI-double. McElhaney was left at 2nd after Sotter enticed a game-ending comebacker.

A southpaw, Williams also went the distance, scattering a half-dozen hits — including Kristen Klein’s pair — striking out 6 and walking 6.

ä West Middlesex 10, Commodore Perry 0 (5 inn.) — At West Middlesex’s Richard Kritz Complex, Jordyn Allen fired a complete-game 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts and no walks and the Ms. Reds (2-0, 4-2) banged out 10 hits in the Region 1 win over CP.

Allen and Chelsea Reed had 2 singles each for WM, Aly Andrusky singled and doubled and Sara McFarland and Jade Kroesen both tripled.

Emily Sanner suffered the setback for CP (1-1, 1-3). She struck out 1 and walked 5 in 4 innings. Devon Sernik had the lone hit, a single.
