Roundup: Sharon, Mercer, Reynolds, GC, KC softball teams win

ä Sharon 6, Lakeview 5 —
At Wengler Field, Mallory Torr tattooed a 2-run double in the home half of the 6th stanza, staking Sharon to the win.

Winning Lady Tigers’ twirler Gabby Gadola garnered a complete-game performance, fanning 5, walking only 1 and scattering 10 hits.

Also for Sharon (1-2 region, 5-3 overall), Abriana Dellibovi drilled a double.

Leading Lakeview, were Katie Watts, with 2 hits, Bronwyn Brocklehurst, who banged a single and double, and Kala Mahen, who muscled a home run and single. Lady Sailors’ starter Mahen permitted 3 hits and 2 walks in 5 frames, striking out 6. She left with the count knotted at 4. Reliever Watts was the victim of Torr’s hit, one of 3 she permitted.  

ä Mercer 10, Jamestown 0 (5 inn.) — At Jamestown, coach Jack Trott’s Lady M’s improved to 5-2 with the win over the Lady Muskies.

Melissa Shoemaker fired a complete-game 2-hitter with 3 strikeouts and no walks for the win.

Analise Whenry ripped a pair of singles and triple and Heather Woods singled and tripled for Mercer.

Erynn Williams suffered the loss for Jamestown. She had 3 strikeouts, 2 walks and surrendered 7 runs on 5 hits in 4 innings.

Melissa Adams doubled for Jamestown. The other hit was a single.

ä Reynolds 3, West Middlesex 2 — At Transfer, Paige Baker fired a complete-game 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Lady Raiders (3-3) edged the Ms. Reds.

Autumn Babcock drilled 2 doubles for Reynolds and Baker collected a pair of singles.

Jordyn Allen went the distance for WM. She had 6 Ks, 3 walks and gave up 6 hits. Jade Kroesen led the Ms. Reds at the dish with a double and single.

ä Grove City 10, Meadville 0 (6 inn.) — At Memorial Park, Kaite Maine muscled a home run in the home half of the 6th stanza to end the abbreviated outing.

Winning pitcher Maddie Elberty ended with a complete-game 2-hitter, striking out 6 and not issuing a walk. Also for Grove City (2-1 region, 2-6 overall), Macaela King clubbed 2 hits and scored 3 runs and Taylor Shingledecker singled, doubled and drove in 3 runs. Maine also singled and had 2 ribbies.

Losing Meadville moundsman Taylor Nottingham was nicked for 10 hits and 6 walks. She whiffed 2.

ä Kennedy Catholic 3, Commodore Perry 2 — At Sheakleyville, the visiting Lady Golden Eagles eased to the win as Emilee Taylor outduelded Emly Kitchen.

Taylor tossed a 2-hitter, striking out 10 and walking 1, while Kitchen KO’d 6, walked 6 and scattered a half-dozen hits. Both went the distance.

Keying KC (2-3) at the dish, Abby Ferlin and Tori Bremick drilled 2 hits apiece and Annie Papa pounded a triple.

For CP, Devon Sernik slammed a solo shot.

BASEBALL

ä Grove City 10, Sharpsville 6 —
At Memorial Park, Grove City, the host Eagles eased to the win over the Blue Devils.

Ryan Grace earned the mound victory. He pitched 3 innings of relief with 4 strikeouts, no walks and only allowed 2 hits.

Offensively for GC (6-1), Jordan Anderson had 2 singles and scored twice, Jared Sample ripped a pair of singles, Matt Gordon had an RBI- double and Jesse Hodge notched a 2-run double.

Michael Vannoy started for Sharpsville and only pitched 1/3 of an inning. He fanned 1, walked 3 and gave up 5 runs on 2 hits. At the dish, Mitch Fyffe had 2 doubles for Sharpsville and Tyler Wansack tripled.

ä Kennedy Catholic 11, Rocky Grove 1 (5 inn.) — At Rocky Grove Monday, Jacob Fiscus led the Gold Eagles by going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in 2 runs. Pat Flynn and Jacob Leipheimer each went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Scott Moore hurled a complete game for the winners, fanning 6 and scattering 3 hits.

ä Kennedy Catholic 4, Sharon 1 —
At Buhl Park Monday, KC moved to 2-1 with the win.

Singles: Nickolo Lima (KC) def. Doug McVehil, 6-2, 6-2; Andre Antenescu (KC) def. Brandon Bittler, 6-1, 6-0; Dylan Cerroni (S) def. Jesse Kirila, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Doubles: Stephens Edge-Drew Grabigel (KC) def. Jack Evans-Steven Merchant, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5; John McGonigle-Blase Hudson (KC) def. Skylar Villegas-Darin Perozich, 6-2, 7-5.

ä Greenville 3, Sharon 2 — At Buhl Farm Park, the visiting Trojans triumphed in 2 of 3 singles matches and split the doubles competiton.

For Greenville, Chad Ferguson and Seth Jaussen won at 1st and 2nd singles, while the Trojans triumphed at 2nd doubles, led by David Jeffries-Jon Stapchuck.

For Sharon (0-5), Dylan Cerroni secured the No. 3 singles match, while the 1st Tigers’ tandem of Jack Evans-Steve Merchant rallied from an opening-set loss to win.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

ä West Middlesex 91, Brookfield 33 —
At West Middlesex, Chloé Tyillian set a school record in the 3200-meter run in leading the Ms. Reds past the Lady Warriors.

Tyillian clocked in at 12:14.3 in the 3200 to break the 2006 mark of Morgan Swartz (12:18.23). Tyillian also took 1st in the 1600 in 5:43.3.

Alyson Pierce, Debbie Dambaugh and Rachel DeMaria were also double-event winners for WM. Pierce was 1st in the 800 and ran the opening leg on the 3200 relay team, Dambaugh copped the 200 and was on the 400 relay squad, and DeMaria captured the shot put and discus.

Tori Thompson led Brookfield, winning the 100 (13.8), sweeping the hurdles (16.6 and 48.2) and running the opening leg on the winning 1600 relay team (4:37.2).

ä Hickory 99, Greenville 51 — At Crowther Track, Greenville, the visiting Lady Hornets (2-0) harvested the road win, led by Lexie Bible (1600-, 3200-meter runs, 4x8 relay leg), Jenna Placzek (distance-, mile-relay legs), and Jackie White (800, 4x4 relay leg).

Rebekah Petty (pole vault, 100-meter dash, sprint-relay anchor), Osborne (high hurdles, 4x1 relay) and Robinson (high jump, 400) led the Lady Trojans. Returning state medalist Petty pole-vaulted 11-6.

ä Mercer 97.5, Reynolds 43.5; Wilmington 92, Mercer 54 — At the County Seat, Jenny Berger boosted Mercer, sweeping the high and intermediate hurdles, while Candi Arnold annexed 800- and 1600-meter runs for Reynolds.

For Wilmington, Tessa Sikora (long, high jumps, 200), Kate Robb (1600, 3200 runs), Jackie Falvo (shot, disc) and Allison Baldwin (400, 800 runs) led the Lady Greyhounds.

ä Lakeview 79.5, Sharon 50.5 — At Stoneboro, Brittany Casciotti, Courtney King and Reed won 2 events each for the Lady Sailors.

Casciotti won the shot and discus, Reed took 1st in the 100 and long jump and King copped the triple and high jumps.

Brianna Roys led Sharon with wins in the 800, 1600, 3200 and 3200 relay. The Lady Tigers also beat KC (59.5 to 19) and CP (50.5 to 20).

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

ä West Middlesex 126 Brookfield 3 —
At West Middlesex, Coach Ed Pikna’s host Big Reds (5-0) rolled, led by multiple-event winners Luke Patten (200, pole vauilt, sprint-relay leg), Clay Allen (100, sprint-relay anchor), Jeremy Jancso (long jump, 4x4 relay leg), Isaac Williams (open 3200, distance-relay leg), Austin Mirizio (high, intermediate hurdles, sprint-relay leg), Aaron Fitzgerald (distance-, sprint-relays, 400) and Trevor Harrison (shot, disc).

ä Hickory 126.5, Greenville 23.5 — At Crowther Track, Greenville, the visiting Hornets humbled the host Trojans.

Kevin Jancsar (800-, 1600-meter runs, distance- mile-relay legs) led the Hornets, while Matt Voytik (javelin, sprint-relay leg), DeShawn Coleman (200, 4x1 leg), and Shane Beatty (high hurdles, triple jump) contributed multiple wins, while Wagner (400, mile-relay leg) did likewise.

ä Wilmington 112.5, Mercer 36.5; Mercer 78, Mercer 67 — At Mercer, Dwight Scott (100, 400, 4x4, 4x8 relay legs), Morgan Logan (sprint- and mile-relays, 200), and Jon Yohman (shot, disc), posted multiple wins for the visiting Greyhounds.

Kevin Reno roared to a pair of distance wins (1600, 3200), posting a 10:26.3 in the latter, for the host Mustangs, while Hoffman had another pair of wins (100, 200). Confer (200, 400) collected a pair for Sharpsville.

For Reynolds, Moffett mustered twin wins (shot, disc), while Sherbondy set the pace in the 800-meter run and added another victory by triple-jumping 39-2è.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

ä Beaver County Christian 3, Farrell 0 —
At E.J. McCluskey Gymnasium, the host Steelers fell to 2-2 with the 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 loss.
