Roundup: Hickory's Colbert tied for 18th at PIAA Golf

- — Hickory High junior Billy Colbert shot a 40-41—81 on Monday to tie for 18th place at the 2013 PIAA Golf Championships at Heritage Hills Resort in York, Pa.

Colbert was in a 5-way tie for 18th after shooting 10-over-par at par-71 Heritage Hills. He tees off at 9:30 a.m. today for the 2nd round.

Cole Miller of Northwestern Lehigh fired a 35-34—69 to lead after the openng day in York. Miller has a 1-stroke lead over Isaiah Logue of Fairfield (36-34).

Tied for 3rd are Roland Massimino of New Hope-Solebury and Owen Miller of Burgettstown. They shot 73s.

GIRLS SOCCER

ä Oil City 1, West Middlesex 0 (OT) —
On “Senior Recognition Night” at West Middlesex, the Lady Oilers (1-15) picked up their 1st win of the season as the Ms. Reds (8-8-1) dropped a tough match to OC.

Oil City scored on a corner kick 1 minute into the overtime period. Lena Carll buried the goal off an assist from Olivia Chapman. Shainia Kulling posted 10 saves in goal for the Lady Oilers.

Brianna Spencer registered 4 saves between the pipes for West Middlesex, which outshot Oil City 23-7.

“It was a tough loss on senior night,” said WM coach Mike Williams. “The kids played their hearts out. We just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.

“Soccer is a game where one team can outplay another, but if you don’t finish, you don’t win. But I’m proud of the kids — from where we were to where we are. We’re building the program.”

The WM girls soccer program is in its 3rd year. They went 0-14-2 the 1st season and 4-12-2 last year.

WM seniors are Spencer, Kaitlyn Beck, Delaney David, Kayla Ballard, Searra McElrath, Amelia Hemminger and Molly Stonebraker.

Their final regular season match is Wednesday at Girard.

At Stoneboro, the Lady Sailors rolled to a 25-13, 25-15, 28-26 sweep of the Lady Trojans.

Lakeview: Rachel McKean 14 kills, 5 aces, 10 digs; Sam Riddle 20 digs; Salena Stutzman 12 digs; Sam Womer 6 kills; Tia Ray 13 kills, 7 assists, 5 aces, 21 digs; Caitlin Casciotti 5 kills; Taylor Reed 33 assists, 20 digs; Ashley Ray 13 digs. Greenville: No stats reported.

JV: Greenville, 25-21, 22-25, 19-17. It was the 1st loss of the season for Lakeview.
