Roundup: WM teams sweep Region 1 cross country crowns

- — GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

ä West Middlesex 19, Sharpsville 42 —
At Buhl Farm Park, Coach Bob Morris’ Ms. Reds (6-0, 8-0) captured the Region 1 title for the 8th time in 9 seasons.

Chloé Tyillian finished 1st for WM in 19:58, while Madison Przicina was 2nd for Sharpsville in a time of 20:15.

“It’s always a thrill to win a region championship,” said Morris. “This ends the first part of our season; now we got to look forward to the big meets. But I’m real happy for the girls. The schedule is a real grind. All 11 work hard and a region title is always one of our goals. Congratulations to all our girls and our lone senior Jen Drda for a fine year.”

ä Hickory 20, Wilmington 35 — At Hermitage, Coach Tony Mastrian’s Lady Hornets (6-0) captured the Region 2 championship.

Lexi Bible (19:47), Jackie Abraham, Haley Boyd and Bailey Brown swept the top 4 spots for Hickory. Wilmington’s Rikki Brumbaugh finished 5th with a clocking of 21:37.

“The girls ran very aggressively,” said Mastrian. “Being the last dual-meet of the season they wanted to have their best times of the year, and many of them did. We now prepare for the big races that will be held the next couple weekends.”

ä Greenville 26, Slippery Rock 30 — At Greenville, the Lady Trojans took 6 of the top 10 berths to edge visiting Slippery Rock, led by runnerup Maddie Thrasher, who placed 20 seconds behind Slippery Rock’s Tabitha Donaldson.

ä Commodore Perry 15, Jamestown 50 (forfeit) — At Sheakleyville, the host Lady Panthers were led by Shae Grinnell’s 20:31 clocking in the exhibition.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

ä Hickory 23, Wilmington 34 —
At Hermitage, the Hornets closed out the dual-meet season 5-1. Hickory’s lone loss was to Grove City.

Kyle Boyd finished 1st overall for the Hornets in a time of 17:26, 10 seconds ahead of Wilmington’s Calvin Gealy.

ä Commodore Perry 21, Jamestown 40 — At Sheakleyville, the host Panthers prevailed, led by Nate White, who won in 17:46 — 8 seconds ahead of runnerup Christian McElhaney of Jamestown.

ä Greenville 24, Slippery Rock 35 — At Greenville, Dylan Foley forged the host Trojans’ triumph with a 17:08 first-place finish, just 11 ticks ahead of Slippery Rock runnerup Andrew Maxwell.

ä West Middlesex 15, Sharpsville 50 (forfeit) — At Buhl Park, West Middlesex (6-0, 8-0) won its 9th Region 1 title in 9 seasons as Levi Canon (17:22) and David Johnson (17:23) finished 1-2 for WM.

Brad Calleja was 3rd (17:52) for Sharpsville.

“I’m just proud for the kids,” said Morris. “I’m proud of all the hard work these 16 boys put into the dual-meet season. I hope their work ethic and energy continues for the next few weeks and we hope for bigger things. Congrats to all the boys and our lone senior Levi (Canon).”

GIRLS SOCCER

ä Mercer 5, Sharon 1 —
At Sharon’s Tiger Stadium, the visiting Lady M’s (9-0, 11-4) got a 2-goal performance from Megan McKinney in the Region 1 win over Sharon.

Lexie Arkwright, Rebecca Shaffer and Adelyn Cook also scored for Mercer. Arkwright, Bethany Juergens and Kaitlin Berger had assists. Sami Carr made 7 saves in goal for Mercer.

Lily Trambley scored the lone goal for Sharon (3-10-1).

˝ On Monday, also at Tiger Stadium, Sharon was blanked by Fort LeBoeuf, 5-0.

ä Sharpsville 3, Kennedy Catholic 0 — Under the lights at McCracken Field, seniors Aislinn Frazer, Rose Stoyer and Rachel Toy were shining stars on “Senior Night” as they led the Lady Blue Devils (2-7, 3-12) to the Region 1 win.

Frazer drilled home a pair of goals and Stoyer scored the other goal. Stoyer and Juliana Sickafus were credited with assists. Toy notched the shutout between the pipes, making 12 saves.

Elizabeth Volkay posted 10 saves in goal for Kennedy Catholic.

Sharpsville’s seniors are Sickafus, Frazer, Stoyer, Toy, Ashley Hall, Cristen Woodward, Lauren Jones and Kailynne Keck.

ä Hickory 14, Titusville 0 — Under the lights at Hornet Stadium, Jackie White had 5 goals and Sara Suler posted a hat trick and 2 assists in leading the Lady Hornets (7-0, 12-1-1).

White and Suler, who are only juniors, both surpassed the 50-goal, 50-assist mark for their careers and senior Morgan McBride posted her 40th shutout.

Lauren Bell had 2 goals and 3 assists, M.K. Bair registered 1 goal and 2 assists, Isabella Spadafora tallied 1 goal and 3 assists, Marissa DeJulia notched 1 goal and 1 assists, Alura Dillon fired in a goal and Brianna McGowan was credited with 1 assist.

JV: Hickory, 2-0.

ä Grove City 6, Oil City 0 — At Oil City, Julie Distasi scored a hat trick to lead the visiting Lady Eagles.

Also garnering Grove City goals were Grace Dadzaa, Anna Williams and Lauren Wentz, while goalkeeper Olivia Andrews pitched the shutout.

Williams assisted on 2 scores, and Kalie Davis, Dadzaa also were credited with assists.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

ä Sharpsville 3, Commodore Perry 0 —
At Sharpsville, Olivia Shuttleworth had 20 points and 5 digs in leading the Lady Blue Devils (9-2, 9-4) to a 25-12, 25-15, 25-10 Region 1 sweep of CP.

Sharpsville: Madison Przicina 14 assists; Rachel D’Auria 8 kills, 5 points; Emily Anderson 5 kills; Kara Morris 5 mills; Miley Sikorski 5 kills, 10 points; Rachel Harenchar 7 digs; Emma Gerasimek 5 digs; Kailee Scurpa 6 assists. CP: No stats reported.

ä West Middlesex 3, Lakeview 0 — At West Middlesex, the host Ms. Reds improved to 13-0 with a 25-21, 26-24, 26-24 sweep of the Lady Sailors.
