Roundup: Hickory girls golf 2-for-2 in mega-matches

Coach Craig Antush’s Hickory High linksters made it 2-for-2 on Thursday in Region 1 Mega-Matches by shooting a 191 at Shenango Lake Golf Club in Transfer. Reynolds had a 198, West Middlesex shot a 220 and Rocky Grove only had 3 girls.

Hickory’s Alena Lancia and Reynolds’ Izzy Schell shared medalist honors by carding 44s. Lexi Collins led WM with a 50.

Hickory: Lancia 44, Abby Hearns 46, Kristina David 48, Ali Izzo 53. Reynolds: Schell 44, Taylor Yahner, Taylor DeLong 50s, Jamie Vamosi 54. WM: Collins 50, Paige Fair 53, Rachel Harper 56, Madi Weimer 65.

Hickory, which won the season-opening mega-match in Franklin on Monday, leads the Region 1 standings with 8 points, followed by Reynolds (6), WM (4) and RG (2).

Antush noted that the Lady Hornets host the Hickory Invitational at 10:30 a.m. today at Hickory VFW Golf Course. A total of 9 teams will compete and 14 schools will be represented.

At Pleasant Acres Golf Course in Jamestown, the Golden Eagles improved to a perfect 3-0 with a close win over the Muskies.

Jamestown’s Jake Reaugh earned medalist honors by carding a 40. Jacob Wilson led KC with a 44.

KC: Wilson 44, Teddy Haaz 45, Paul Spondike 46, Jesse Kirila 48. Jamestown: Reaugh 40, Chris Schultz 46, Shannon Potter 49, Ronnie Meals 51.

ä Mercer 167, Greenville 188 — At Spring Valley Golf Course, coach Dick Griffith’s Mustangs improved to 3-0 with a win over the Trojans.

Nate Guiler fired a 37 to lead Mercer while Nick Dietrich carded a 45 for Greenville.
