Roundup: Hickory girls golf team 5-for-5 in mega-matches

Region 1 Mega-Match


Coach Craig Antush’s Hickory High girls team made it a perfect 5-for-5 this season by winning at Lucky Hills Golf Course, Franklin.

Hickory shot a 193, followed by Reynolds (208) and West Middlesex (228). Rocky Grove only had 3 competitors. Hickory leads the Region 1 points with 20. Reynolds has 15 and WM 10.

Grove City’s Fontaine McFeaters, competing independently, earned medalist honors by firing a 38. Abby Hearns (44) led Hickory, Jamie Vamosi (49) paced Reynolds and Paige Fair (54) led WM.

BOYS GOLF

ä Neshannock 200, Grove City 226 —
At Castle Hills Golf Club, New Castle, Chris Egbert carded a 35 in leading the Lancers past the Eagles (5-5) in a match played with WPIAL rules (count 5 of 6 golfers).

Kyle Shingledecker fired a 40 to lead Grove City while Matt Gordon fired a 41.

Neshannock: Egbert 35, Rozzi 37, Kirkwood 39, Moses 44, Olivia 45. Grove City: Shingledecker 40, Gordon 41, Jordan Anderson 44, Derek Saylor 48, Justin Fulkerson 53.

ä Lakeview 176, Rocky Grove 201 — At Pine Grove Golf Course in Grove City, Chris Palutro carded a 40 in leading the Sailors (3-4) past the Orioles on the par-36 front nine.

Lakeview: Palutro 40, Austin Milliren 42, Keith Kepner 46, Sean Carlson 48. Rocky Grove: Nate White 47, Aaron Weltner 49, Evan Shoup 52, Dan Kleck 53.

Brookfield Invitational

Brookfield (386) finished 11th out of 13 teams at their invite on Monday at Yankee Run Golf Course.

Warren JFK captured the team title with 332 strokes. Other scores: East Palestine (343), Cortland-Lakeview (344), Harding (353), Maplewood (359), Ursuline (363), Beaver Local (364), Py Valley (378), Mathews (379), Conneaut (380), Heartland Christian (393) and Lordstown (393).

JFK’s Ryan Fowler and Billy Phillips finished 1-2 individually by shooting a 76 and 77, respectively. The Warriors’ Lonnie Schell tied for 6th place with an 83.

GIRLS SOCCER

ä Slippery Rock 6, Sharpsville 0 —
At McCullough Run in South Py Twp., Molly Joyce and Jenny Dudek had 2 goals each for the Lady Rockets (2-3) in the non-region win over Sharpsville (1-2).

Mackenzie Elliott and Abigail Magliocca notched the other goals for SR. Laurne Leoneerg posted the shutout in goal.

Juliana Sickafus and Rachael Toy split time in goal for the Blue Darlings. Sickafus had 10 saves while Toy recorded 8.

ä Sharpsville 3, Cambridge Springs 2 — In a recent match, scoring for Sharpsville (1-1) were Alisson Fraizer, assisted by Flora Misso; Ashley Vansickle, assisted by Rose Stoyer; and Ashley Hall. In goal, Sickafus had 14 saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

ä Mercer 3, Commodore Perry 0 —
At Mercer, Melissa Shoemaker notched 24 points (10 aces) and 10 assists as the Lady M’s (2-1) swept CP, 25-7, 25-18, 25-13.
