Roundup: Trojans, Hounds win team titles at WM Invitational

- — Wilmington High girls and Greenville boys dominated the annual Big Red Track & Field Invitational Thursday afternoon in West Middlesex.

A half-dozen girls’ and 7 boys’ teams competed.

Wilmington overwhelmed the female field, as the Lady Greyhounds garnered almost twice as many points as runner-up Lakeview (236-5 to 133.5).

Wilmington swept all three relays — led by Rikki Brumbaugh, Hannah Drake, Hannah Winters and Allison Baldwin in the 4x8 and 4x4 events — as well as the jumps, led by Drake (long, triple). Also, Julie Falvo finished 1st in both the shot and disc, while Baldwin added an individual win in the 800-meter run.

Greenville’s Bradi Osborne swept the high and intermdiate hurdles, while Lakeview Lady Sailors’ sprinter Taylor Reed recorded a sweep of the 100- and 200-meter dashes. West Middlesex’s Kristen White (1600 and Chloé Tyillian (3200) dominated the distances.

˝ Greenville boys took 1st place in 9 of the 18 events, led by double-winners Devin Sulick and Christian McElhaney. Sulick swept the hurdles (16.7 and 43.9) while McElhaney won the 800 (2:09.7) and ran the anchor leg on the 1st-place 3200 relay squad (8:36.8).

Greenville accumulated 214 points, followed by Lakeview (170) and George Junior Republic (92).

Lakeview’s Blake Reddick grabbed top honors in 3 events (200, 400, anchor leg on sprint-relay team) and Zach VanDusen also ran on the 4x1 relay and won the long jump.

Kianta Britton was the lone winner for GJR in the 100-meter dash (11.1) while Isaac Williams (1600) and Eric Lucich (triple jump) grabbed wins for West Middlesex.

SOFTBALL

ä West Middlesex 11, Sharpsville 1 (5 inn.) —
At West Middlesex, Jordyn Allen fired a complete-game 6-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in leading the Ms. Reds past the Devils.

The walk was the 1st issued by Allen this season through 6 games for WM who improved to 5-1. The lone loss was to Lakeview in the season-opener. Offensively for WM, Macy Siefert, Hannah Havens and Aly Andrusky had 2 singles each and Brooke Parcetich doubled.

Abby Ferlin went the distance for Sharpsville. She had no strikeouts, walked 3 and surrendered 11 hits. Ferlin doubled and singled for the Devils and Olivia Shuttleworth added a pair of singles.

ä Wilmington 13, Lakeview 2 (5 inn.) — At New Wilmington, the hos Lady Hounds hammered Lakeview into its 1st region loss.

Wilmington (2-0, 6-0) was led by Lexi Donati’s 3-run ‘’dinger and 2 singles; Alanna Elliott’s 2-run triple and single, and Chelsea Rogel, who ripped a bases-loaded double and singled. Also for the Lady Hounds, Nicki McCown singled twice and doubled, Aryn Boyer banged a single and double, and Courtney Cohen collected 2 hits.

Winning Wilmington pitcher Kayleigh Shanker scattered 7 hits, struck out 6 and walked 4.

Leading Lakeview were  Kate McClelland, who clubbed a solo shot, and Robin Shearer, who doubled. Losing Lakeview starter Kayla Mahen fanned 5 and walked 1.

Wilmington welcomes Titusville Saturday at noon.

ä Kennedy Catholic 11, Farrell 3 — At Hermitage, Emilee Taylor twirled a complete-game 3-hitter with 13 strikeouts and 6 walks as KC (2-3) beat Farrell.

Offensively for KC, Taylor ripped a pair of singles and drove in 4 runs, Tori Bremick registered 2 singles and Donique Marcela tripled.

Tyler Lampkins went the distance for Farrell. She fanned 7, walked 9 and gave up 10 hits and Sierra Pickens led them at the plate with 2 singles.

˝ KC reported its stats in Wednesday’s 7-5 win over Commodore Perry in Sheakleyville — the 1st win of the season for the Lady Golden Eagles.

Taylor earned the mound win. She fanned 11, walked 6 and only allowed 4 hits. Offensively, Taylor had 2 singles, doubled and drove in a run and Marcella doubled and belted a home run.

BASEBALL

ä Sharpsville 11, West Middlesex 1 (5 inn.) —
At the McCullough Run Complex in South Py Twp., Devils’ pitcher George Keck only allowed 3 hits in going the distance with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Tyler Wansack got the Sharpsville offense going in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a bases-loaded gap shot that scored 2 runs.

Also for the Blue Devils (4-3), Garrison Wieland singled, hit a sac fly and drove in 2 runs, Greg Popatak walked 4 times and scored 3 runs, Logan Eckles ripped a 2-run single, Tanner Morris scored 3 runs and Morgan Titus collected a pair of singles and 2 RBI.

Dylan Fair suffered the loss for WM. He left the game after giving up 8 runs. WM’s lone run was scored in the top of the 5th on a sac fly by Mark Colella, which scored Trey Staunch.

ä Reynolds 17, Kennedy Catholic 6 (6 inn.) — At Hermitage, Collin Yake went 3-for-4 with a 3-run homer, 2 doubles and drove in 7 runs in lifting the Raiders (5-3) past KC in a game that featured 16 errors (7 Reynolds, 9 KC).

Also for Reynolds, Jack Mahlon was 3-for-5 with 4 RBI, Jacob Reimold went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, Adam Ballish had a 2-for-2 plate performance with a pair of RBI, Jakob Palmiter was 2-for-4 and Dustin Reimold (freshman left fielder) saw his 1st varsity playing time and was 1-for-1.

Mahlon started for the Raiders and went 3ìinnings with 4 strikeouts, 1 walk and gave up all 6 runs on 8 hits. Ballish closed it out with 1 walk and 2 hits.

ä Grove City 2, Meadville 0 — At Grove City, Jesse Hodge fired a complete-game shutout for the Eagles (3-2). He only allowed 3 hits, struck out 4 and walked 3.

Matt Gordon gave GC a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI double and Dustin Maine tacked on an insurance run in the 6th by doubling and then eventually scoring on a throwing error.

Dominik Pruskowski threw 5 innings for the Bulldogs and took the loss. Brock Biggs had 2 singles.

BOYS TENNIS

ä Grove City 5, Sharon 0 —
At Buhl Park, Chris Adams, Evan Lowers and Frankie Bassani swept singles play for the Eagles (7-2) while Andrew McCracken-Tanner McKnight and Jacob Shilling-Steven Shi teamed up to win doubles as GC swept the Tigers.
