Roundup: Lady M's beat CP; Hornets rout Saegertown

- — The 2013 Region 2 Wrestling Duals will be held at Greenville High School with action on 4 mats beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Not only is Greenville seeking to repeat as region champions, it should also be a historic moment for the mat program.

Coach John Reynolds, in his 11th season as head coach of the Trojans, can surpass the record of legendary Dave Clelland who posted 171 victories at Greenville. Reynolds has 169 wins entering the tourney.

Following is the tourney schedule:

9 a.m. — Cochranton vs. Commodore Perry; Greenville vs. Girard; Cambridge Springs vs. Maplewood; Jamestown vs. Northwestern.

10:10 a.m. — Cochranton vs. Jamestown; Greenville vs. Cambridge springs; Maplewood vs. Girard; Northwestern vs. Commodore Perry.

ä Sharon 47, Lakeview 21 —
At Stoneboro Tuesday night, coach Dave Ciafre’s Sharon High Tigers opened the dual-match season with a win over the Sailors.

Jason Clark (138), Cory Buchanan (160), Eric Ziegler (170) and Beau Dignall (182) recorded pins for the Tigers.

Marquis Spence posted the lone win for Lakeview with a 10-4 decision at 195 pounds.

ä Reynolds 47, Erie Cathedral Prep 16 — At Reynolds Tuesday, the host Raiders rolled over Prep (2-1). Notching falls for Reynolds (2-1) were Alex DiGregorio (138), Mason McCollum (152), Keegan Miller (160), Mike Millero (170) and Gage Bayless (106).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ä Mercer 67, Commodore Perry 24 —
At Mercer Wednesday night, coach Aaron Cook’s Lady M’s improved to 3-2 with the non-region win over the Lady Panthers (3-3).

Adelyn Cook rifled in 6 treys en route to 19 points to lead Mercer while Alexis Arkwright bucketed 12 and Megan McKinney added 11 markers.

Emily Kitchen led the way for Commodore Perry with 12 points.

ä Maplewood 49, Jamestown 22 — In a non-region battle of teams looking for their 1st win Tuesday, the Lady Tigers (1-5) got the ‘W’ at “The Fish Tank” in Jamestown.

Jessa Covine rifled in 19 points to lead Maplewood.

Emily Robinson and MiKayla Keyser had 6 points each for the Lady Muskies, who fell to 0-6.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ä Hickory 83, Saegertown 39 —
At “The Hive” in Hermitage Wednesday, the Hornets (4-1) jumped out to a 26-0 lead only 4 minutes into the game and rifled in 39 points in the 1st quarter alone in routing the Panthers (0-5) in a non-region encounter.

Anthony Cannone scored 14 to lead 5 Hickory hoopsters that hit double digits in scoring. The others were Brandon Rhoades (12), Donte Green (12), Nick Tantuo (11) and Nick Cannone (10).

Kyle Wise bucketed 10 points to pace the Panthers, who were coming off a 59-44 loss to Reynolds on Tuesday night in Saegertown.

Hickory was coming off a thrilling 62-61 win over Meadville on Tuesday at “The House of Thrills.”

ä Sharpsville 64, VisionQuest 55 — At Sharpsville Tuesday, the Blue Devils improved to 3-2 with the 9-point non-region win over the Eagles (1-5) from Franklin.

Sage Barringer fired in 20 points for Sharpsville and Kyle Kennedy added 19 markers.

Jessie Robinson drained 5 treys en route to a game-high 27 points for VQ and Darrian Brown bucketed 17.

ä Hubbard 61, Brookfield 50 — At Brookfield Tuesday night, the Eagles handed the Warriors (4-1) their 1st loss of the season.

Darnell Tate (14) and Rocco Jones (13) scored in double digits for Hubbard.

Caleb Hunkus was the leading point-getter for the Warriors with a game-high 15.
