Roundup: Blue Darlings beat WM in OT; KC moves to 15-1

ä Sharpsville 41, West Middlesex 36 (OT) —
At West Middlesex, the host Ms. Reds’ Alyson Pierce produced a 3-point bomb with approximately 48 seconds remaining in regulation, forcing overtime before Region 2-AA-leading Sharpsville prevailed.

For Sharpsville (7-0, 9-6) and skipper Jeff Hanley, Megan Davis drilled 5 triples en route to game-high 17 points and McKenzie Popatak produced 14. The Blue Darlings have won 7 of their last 8 outings.

Meanwhile, for West Middlesex (1-6, 6-10), which suffered its 3rd consecutive setback, Kelsey Murray and Morgan Atterholt, with 8 and 5 rebounds, respectively, but the Ms. Reds did not record a double-figure scorer.

ä Kennedy Catholic 84, Rocky Grove 31 — At Hermitage, the host Lady Golden Eagles eased to the Region 1-A rout.

Taylor Hood had a game- and career-high 21-point performance, tossing in 2 treys, and April Bocian boasted an 18-point, 10-rebound double- double, a career-best in the former category, coach Tom Burns said. Also keying Kennedy Catholic (5-0 region, 15-1 overall), Rachel Burns bucketed a 14-point, 12-rebound twin-killing and Alex Ricketts recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Burns has 970 career points.

Christina Schiffer scored 10 points for Rocky Grove (3-2, 8-8).

Kennedy Catholic will face Vincentian Academy (15-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday for the postponed Penn State-Beaver holiday tournament title. Both teams were ranked in the top 5 last season by The Harrisburg Patriot-News.

ä Sharon 62, Wilmington 47 — At New Wilmington, the visiting Lady Tigers (5-2, 9-5) jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the opening quarter and rolled to the Region 2-AA win over the Lady Hounds (3-4, 5-10).

Tanayja Sanders fired in a game-high 20 points for the Lady Tigers while Kristina Jacoway bucketed 13.

Tess Sikora paced Wilmington with 13 points.

ä Hickory 42, Slippery Rock 36 — At “The Rock Box” in Slippery Rock, the visiting Lady Hornets improved to 5-1 in Region 5-AAA and 12-2 overall with the win over the Lady Rockets (4-3, 9-5).

Nikki Arbanas rifled in 4 treys en route to 19 points to lead Hickory. She also had 4 steals. Brandi Beader bucketed 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists. Also for Hickory, Holly Grober had 4 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks, Nicole Lacava had 5 boards and Megan Chess dished out 3 assists and had 3 steals.

Haley Angerett led Slippery Rock with 15 points.

ä Grove City 46, Meadville 29 — At The Eagles’ Nest, the host Lady Eagles (4-2, 10-5) overcame illness and 22 turnovers to upend the Lady Bulldogs (2-5, 3-12) in the Region 5-AAA clash.

Grove City was led by Corianne Hyduchak’s 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Jen Ferguson had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Cadi McCoy paced Meadville with 9 points and 11 rebounds — Information submitted by sports correspondent Corey J. Corbin.

ä Farrell 53, Jamestown 23 — At Jamestown, the visiting Lady Steelers stormed to the Region 1-A road rout.

Whitney Murray mustered a game-high 19 markes and Johntae Scott scored 14 for Farrell (3-2, 9-7).

Isabella Greenawalt garnered 10 for Jamestown (0-5, 0-15).

ä Reynolds 38, Commodore Perry 35 — At Sheakleyville, the Lady Raiders (2-3, 4-11) outscored CP 17-4 in the 2nd quarter to pull away and went on to grab the Region 1-A win.

Rose Stoyer had a game-high 13 points for Reynolds while Kate Powell scored 9 for the Lady Panthers (2-3, 5-9).

ä Lakeview 42, Greenville 32 — At Stoneboro, the host Lady Sailors coasted to the Region 2-AA win by building a 9-point halftime bulge, then limiting the Lady Trojans to 17 second-half points.

Casey Stringer scored 18 points to lead Lakeview (1-6, 5-11), while Jessica Burnett bucketed a game-high 21 points for Greenville (3-4, 5-9).

BOYS BASKETBALL

ä Northwestern 75, Mercer 54 —
At Mercer, the Region 4 Wildcats (8-7) led 17-8 after the opening 8 minutes of play and went on to grab the non-region win over the host Mustangs (5-9).

Kyle McKeen rifled in 28 points to lead Northwestern, while Corey Shinko added 20 points.

Logan Clarke led Mercer with 14 points while Trenton Fowler and Jonathan Scheidhauer had 12 points each.

WRESTLING

ä Lakeview 49, Slippery Rock 17 —
At Stoneboro Wednesday, the Sailors won 9 of 14 matches to beat the Rockets.

Adam Dosch (113), Dustin Schliefer (138), Brandon Persch (145) and Marquis Spence (170) posted pins for Lakeview.

Mitchell Grossman had the lone pin for Slippery Rock at 126 pounds.
