Roundup: Reynolds baseball tops GC; Sharpsville, Wilmington softball teams win

ä Reynolds 4, Grove City 1 —
At Transfer, Neal Engstrom fired a complete-game 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in lifting the Raiders (9-8) past the Eagles (14-6).

Ryan Grace was tagged with the loss for Grove City. He struck out 6 batters, issued no walks and gave up 7 hits in going the distance.

Offensively for Reynolds, Jacob Reimold singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored once, Tyler Thompson was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Adam Ballish tripled and scored a run.

Jared Sample, Collin Lawson and Jesse Hodge all had singles for Grove City.

Thursday was Senior Day for the Raiders. Reynolds closes out the regular season by hosting Ft. LeBoeuf today at 4:15 p.m.

SOFTBALL

ä Sharpsville 17, Commodore Perry 3 (5 inn.) —
On Senior Night at Sharpsville, Maddie Shuttleworth fired a complete-game 5-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks as the Blue Darlings (8-2, 12-5) wrapped up the Region 1-A championship.

Offensively for Sharpsville, McKenzie Popatak belted a 2-run homer and singled, Megan Davis tripled and singled, Eugena Davies doubled, Megan Whalen tripled, Elle Marie ripped a pair of singles and Tiffany Malloy singled, doubled and tripled.

Emily Kitchen fanned 2, walked 6 and gave up 12 hits in the loss for CP.

Stephanie Vaughn doubled and Alexis Nagy had 2 singles for the Lady Panthers.

Sharpsville opens the District 10 playoffs against Rocky Grove at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Penn State-Behrend in Erie, according to assistant coach Keith Wansack.

The baseball and softball brackets haven’t been posted on the District 10 website.

ä Wilmington 9, Hickory 4 — At Hermitage, the Region 2-AA champion Lady Hounds (17-2) notched a non-region win over Hickory.

Abby Sotter went the distance for Wilmington. She fanned 4, walked 6 and only allowed 5 hits.

Lexi Donati had 2 singles and 3 RBI for the Hounds, Cassidy Marett and Alanna Elliott both doubled and singled, Courtney Cohen ripped 3 singles and Chelsea Rogel and Ashley Houk had 2 singles each.

Lauren Kizak and Chelsea Marriott pitched for Hickory. They combined for 4 strikeouts, 4 walks and gave up 15 hits.

Alyssa Kostka tripled and singled for Hickory and Morgan McBride doubled and singled.

Wilmington closes out the regular season with a 3 p.m. game Saturday at Saegertown.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

ä Ashtabula-Edgewood 126, Youngstown Christian School 23, Brookfield 15 —
At Brookfield Wednesday, the Warriors hosted their first home meet in 15 years at the new inaugural 8-lane track.

Brookfield did not win any events. Edgewood’s Cameron Manhard set a school record in the high jump (6-5 1/2).

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

ä Ashtabula-Edgewood 76, Youngstown Christian School 47, Brookfield 35 —
At Brookfield Wednesday, Tori Thompson swept the hurdles (16.7 and 47.5) in leading the Lady Warriors. Also, Lindsey Swanson won the 1600 (6:11).
