Herald staff

---- — Three District 10 semifinal playoff softball games were on the schedule Thursday, but only one was played due to the scattered storms that passed through western Pa.

Hickory suffered a 10-0, 6-inning loss to Warren in a D-10 Class AAA game at Allegheny College in Meadville. That game had a rain delay, but was able to be completed. The Reynolds vs. Saegertown game at Allegheny College and the Sharpsville vs. Iroquois game at Penn State-Behrend in Erie were postponed. Sharpsville plays at 1 p.m. today in Erie and Reynolds plays at noon Saturday at Allegheny.

There are 3 baseball games today involving area teams. In Class AA, Sharpsville battles Mercyhurst Prep at 4 p.m. at Slippery Rock University’s Jack Critchfield Park and Wilmington faces Saegertown at 4:30 p.m. at Ainsworth Field, Erie. In Class AAA, Grove City squares off against Slippery Rock at SRU.

At Allegheny College in Meadville, Alexa Bupp fired a complete-game 3-hitter with 12 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Lady Dragons ousted Hickory.

Chelsea Marriott pitched 4 innings for the Lady Hornets. She gave up 7 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and no strikeouts. Mikhaila Layshock pitched the final 2 frames with no Ks, 1 walk and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits.

“We lose three great seniors in Tomko (CF), Lauren Kizak (P) and Courtney Maniscalco (3B),” said 1st-year Hickory coach Tanya McClafferty. “They are all great kids who will be missed.

“Although it was a tough loss, I have high hopes and great expectations of this young team. The program has a very bright future ahead of it.”

Warren beat Hickory, 6-2, in the semifinals last season and then lost to Ft. LeBoeuf, 9-2, in the D-10 title game.

The Lady Dragons will play in their 5th straight D-10 title game on Monday against either Corry or Ft. LeBoeuf. That game was ppd. Thursday and will be played today.

Wednesday’s Late Game

ä Cochranton 1, Kennedy Catholic 0 —
At Northwestern High School in Albion, Ryan Northcott fired a complete-game 3-hitter and drove in the only run as the Cardinals (10-6) edged KC (7-6).

Northcott doubled in the 5th inning to score Adam Nageotte for the lone run.

It appeared that KC had taken a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly, but it was ruled that Scott Moore left third base early.

Moore went the distance for the Golden Eagles and only allowed 6 hits in suffering the tough loss.

Cochranton meets Eisenhower on Monday in the District 10 championship game. Ike beat Rocky Grove, 9-5, on Wednesday.
