MERCER COUNTY AREA —
The Sharon High Tigers football team begins a delayed start in the District 10 Class AA football playoffs at 7 p.m. today at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium against the Girard Yellow Jackets.
The game was postponed Saturday after the tragic Friday night traffic accident that killed two Tigers players and injured two others. Evan Gill and Corey Swartz died in the crash, while the Osmon twins, Craig and Greg, were hospitalized.
Also killed was John Zdelar of Brookfield when the SUV driven by Swartz crossed the center line and collied head-on with his pickup. Two boys were injured.
Sharon officials weighed whether to play the game or forfeit, but they said the families of the four players were “adamant” that the game be played. Sharon will play the game “in honor of those who cannot play,” said Tigers coach Jim Wildman.
Sharon is 6-4, while Girard come in at 8-2.
