Roundup: CP Invite Saturday; Hickory girls soccer rolls

---- — Commodore Perry High will host its annual cross country invitational on Saturday.

The 15-school field will include Lakeview, Sharon, Reynolds, Cranberry, Mercer, Hickory, Wilmington, Jamestown, Cochranton, Kennedy Catholic, Seneca, Fairview, Clarion, Rocky Grove and the host Panthers.

Meet director and Commodore Perry coach David Snyder said the event begins with the girls’ varsity race at 9 a.m., followed by boys’ varsity, a coed junior varsity race, and separate girls’ and boys’ junior high races.

GIRLS GOLF

ä Hickory 191, Meadville 192 —
At Hickory VFW Golf Course, the Lady Hornets (1-1) edged Meadville in a dual-match and also captured their 6th Region 1 Mega-Match of the season.

Abby Hearns fired a 44 to lead Hickory while Lacey Latta and Felicia Krasa both carded 45s for the Lady Bulldogs.

Hickory: Hearns 44, Alena Lancia 47, Ashley Addicott 49, Chelsea Marriott 51. Meadville: Latta, Krasa 45s, Kailey Malady 48, Micaela Persichini 54.

˝ Hickory made it a perfect 6-for-6 with the 191 in the mega-match. Reynolds shot a 206 and West Middlesex had a 253.

Hearns’ 44 was good for medalist honors in the mega-match. Izzy Schell shot a 48 to lead Reynolds and Lexi Collins fired a 59 for West Middlesex.

Two players from Grove City competed independently. Fontaine McFeaters shot a 45 and Meg Birmingham had a 48.

Hickory leads the region points with 24, followed by Reynolds (18), West Middlesex (12) and Rocky Grove (6), which only has 3 players this season.

BOYS GOLF

ä Kennedy Catholic 171, Jamestown 174 —
At Tam O’Shanter, the host Golden Eagles (5-1 region, 7-1 overall) edged the Muskies.

Jamestown’s Jake Reaugh recorded medalist laurels as he shot 36.

Kennedy Catholic: Paul Spondike 41, Jesse Kirila 42, Teddy Haaz 43, Jacob Wilson 45. Jamestown: Reaugh 36, Ronnie Meals 41, Chris Shultz 47, Shannon Potter 50.

ä Mercer 172, Greenville 189 —At The Greens of Greenville, the visiting Mustangs (7-1) were led by Nate Guiler and Mark Peters, both of whom shot 41.

Greenville is now 2-4.

ä Grove City 168, Slippery Rock 170, Sharon 196 — At Grove City Country Club, the Eagles (8-5) edged the Rockets and Tigers in a tri-match. Matt Gordon fired a 37 to earn medalist honors for Grove City. Ken Rall led the Rockets with a 38 and Joe Faber carded 46 to pace the Tigers.

ä Lakeview 192, Reynolds 198 — At Shenango Lake, the visiting Sailors were led by Chris Palutro’s round of 42, though Reynolds’ Zach Taylor took medalist honors with 37.

ä Hickory 15, Sharpsville 0 —
At the McCullough Run Complex, South Pymatuning Twp., Sara Suler scored 4 goals and Marissa DeJulia and Jackie White both had hat tricks as the Lady Hornets improved to a perfect 3-0.

Lauren Bell and Haley Smith had 2 goals each for Hickory, which led 10-0 at halftime, and M.K. Bair also had a goal. Bell was credited with 3 assists, White and Isabella Spadafora had 2 assists each and Suler, Smith and Riley McConnell also had helpers. Morgan McBride notched the shutout in goal for the Lady Hornets. She made 1 save.

Juliana Sickafus and Rachel Toy split time in goal for the Blue Darlings.

ä West Middlesex 2, Keystone 2 (2 OT) — At West Middlesex, Coach Mike Williams’ host Ms. Reds rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit.

Riley Lyons  and Molly Stonebraker scored for Middlesex, while Gretchen Elsey and Delaney David were credited with assists. Goalkeeper Brianna Spencer made 7 saves for Middlesex (2-1-1), which outshot Keystone, 21-8.

BOYS SOCCER

ä Hickory 6, Conneaut 1 — Under the lights at Hornet Stadium, Zack Walters had 2 goals in leading the Hornets (3-1) past Conneaut Area.

Shaun McGowan, Nick Tantuo, Brady Leunis and Hayden Pozega notched the other goals for Hickory. Noah Cole had 2 assists and Tantuo, James Dorko, Sergeo Spadafora and Evan Montgomery were all credited with 1 assist each.

Donte Green and Blasé Cindric split time in goal for the Hornets. They combined to make 6 saves.

ä Saegertown 1, Grove City 0 — Grove City dominated Wednesday’s match, taking 23 shots on goal to Saegertown’s 3, however, in the 2nd half on a corner kick, the Panthers’ Jesse Bates headed in the only goal of the game.

ä Kennedy Catholic 3, Hickory 1 —
At Hickory High in Hermitage, Jensen Kirila, Bekah Kish and Abby Lenhart swept the singles matches for KC (7-2, 7-3) as it handed the Lady Hornets (8-1, 8-2) their 1st Region 1 loss of the season.

KC’s Jessie Micco-Kendra Kneisl were battling Hickory’s Bailey McLaughlin-Annalise Bianco in 2nd doubles when play was suspended by rain. Coaches mutually agreed to call the match because KC had already won.

At West Middlesex, Megan Hazlett posted 12 points and 13 assists in leading the Ms. Reds (4-0) to the sweep over KC (0-4), 25-18, 25-13, 25-17.
