Roundup: Lakeview's Reddick sets District 10 record

Herald staff

- — While the outcome of Friday night’s football games had no bearing on the upcoming District 10 playoffs for local teams, there were some important developments.

Greenville wrapped up a perfect 10-0 regular season with a 37-8 victory over Harbor Creek, while Lakeview’s sensational senior running back Blake Reddick set a District 10 record by becoming the first back in history to record back-to-back 2,000-plus yard seasons.

Reddick rushed for 195 yards in a 60-0 win over Iroquois. In other results on a limited schedule because some teams closed the season last week it was: Mercer over Reynolds, 32-28; West Middlesex topping Seneca, 14-6; and in Ohio, Brookfield beating LaBrae, 37-21.

Today, Kennedy Catholic (0--9) seeks its first win of the season as the Golden Eagles host Maplewood (4-5). Maplewood needs a victory to earn a spot in the playoffs.

Following are game details for Friday contests:

ä Greenville 37, Harbor Creek 8 — At Harborcreek, the Trojans of coach Brian Herrick closed out a perfect 10-0 regular season, the program’s first 10-0 record since 1999.

The Region 3-AA champions will open the District 10 playoffs next Saturday at 7 p.m. against Fairview at Slippery Rock University.

The Trojans had no trouble Friday up north, rolling to a 19-0 halftime lead on 3 touchdowns by Nick Black on runs of 2, 2 and 3 yards. In the 2nd half, Tyler Fattman scored on a 3-yard run, Cody Nellis on a 2-yard run and Cody Igersheim on a 14-yard pass from Matt Jones.

Harbor Creek (1-9) scored in the final period on a 23-yard burst by Nick Harayda.

Trey VanAken led the Greenville rushing attack with 101 yards on 13 carries. Black finished with 80 yards on 14 totes, while Fattman gained 72 yards on 8 carries.

ä Lakeview 60, Iroquois 0 — At Stoneboro, the Region 1-A champion Sailors warmed up for the D-10 playoffs with a rout of Iroquois.

But besides finishing the regular season at 9-1on Senior Night, it was an especially big night for Blake Reddick who rushed for 195 yards on only 5 carries and became the first player in District 10 history to have back-to-back 2,000-plus yard season.

Last year he gained 2,025 yards. With Friday’s rushing numbers added in, Reddick has posted an unofficial total of 2,148 in 2013 with more to come in the playoffs.

“It feels great to hit this milestone,” said Reddick. “I give a ton of credit to my line and I’m very thankful for my buddy Marquis Spence on his kick-out blocks.”

Reddick also scored three touchdowns on runs of 60, 66 and 58. “Blake deserves everything he gets,” said Lakeview coach Dan York. “He’s a hard worker and a great kid. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

It was also a big night for one of Reddick’s main blockers, senior Sam Breese. Breese, the state heavyweight wrestling champ, blocked a punt and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

Other scores were by Conner Stanovich on a 61-yard punt return; Marquis Spence on a 25-yard run; Zach VanDusen on a 25-yard aerial from Zach Bigley; Brandon Rice on a 30-yard pass from Bigley; and 350-pound Stan Mellott on a 9-yard burst.

Lakeview enters the playoffs as the top seed from the region and will face Maplewood if the Tigers defeat winless Kennedy Catholic this afternoon. — Game reported by Herald Sports Correspondent Madeline Williams.

ä Mercer 32, Reynolds 28 — At the County Seat on Senior Night, the Mustangs marched into the District 10 playoffs with the win.

Class A Mercer (7-3) mustered a 19-7 margin at intermission, then weathered the Mike Millero-led Raiders’ 2nd-half rally.

Logan Clarke connected on 15 of 34 aerials for 221 yards, tossing TDs of 79 and 1 yards to T.J. Peters and Brayton Edwards, respectively. Also for Mercer, Zane O’Brien added 1- and 3-yard TD runs.

Millero manufactured a 20-carry, 134-yard, 3-TD rushing performance that included 7-, 4- and 15-yard scoring sprints. Also, Curt Fowler returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

Mercer and mentor Pat McClearn meet Cambridge Springs, 7 p.m.. Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in their tournament lidlifter.

Class AA Reynolds concluded the campaign 4-6.

ä West Middlesex 14, Seneca 6 — At Big Reds Stadium in West Middlesex, Eric Lucich rushed for 91 yards on 12 carries and scored both touchdowns as WM (6-4) closed out the regular season with a close win over the Bobcats (3-7).

Lucich gave WM a 6-0 lead in the 2nd quarter on a 24-yard TD run. Ethan Thompson booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

Seneca cut the lead to 7-6 in the 3rd quarter on a 14-yard interception return. The 2-point conversion run failed.

WM made it 13-6 when Lucich broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run. Thompson tacked on the extra-point kick to make it 14-6.

The Big Reds’ defense held Seneca to a total of 82 offensive yards.

West Middlesex opens the District 10 Class A playoffs against Cochranton at 7 p.m. Friday at Hickory High’s Hornet Stadium.

ä Brookfield 37, LaBrae 21 — At Brookfield, coach Randy Clark’s Warriors closed out the regular season in style with the victory and kept their playoff hopes alive.

The Warriors (8-2) broke open a tight game by outscoring LaBrae 14-0 in the final frame. Nate Morrison scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 4 and 50 yards for the Warriors. Other tallies were on a 37-yard field goal by Kasey Tingler; a 1-yard run by Augustus Necastro; a 24-yard pass from Necastro to Tingler; and a 6-yard run by Joey Clark.

Marcell Richardson scored 2 TDs for the visitors on passes of 69 and 80 yards from Justin Jenkins, while the other score was a  19-yard pass from Jenkins to Jamal Dawkins.

Necastro passed for 230 yards, while LaBrae’s Jenkins threw for 277 yards.
