Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley in Farrell is sponsoring the “Each One Feed One” campaign.
More than 2,900 Mercer County families rely on the warehouse and its network of emergency food providers.
Donations may be made in honor or memory of someone.

    Blood drive Friday

    Mercer County Chapter pf the American red Cross will hold a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Hickory United Methodist Church’s Swanson Hall. Donors will receive a Thanksgiving-themed apron and a thank you from Paula Deen, including some of her favorite holiday recipes.

    Farrell Alumni dinner
    scheduled for Oct. 20


    The Farrell Alumni Hall of Fame will hold its third annual banquet on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the high school cafeteria when it will induct 10 honorees.
    The following are the inductees and their year of graduation: Dr. Clarice (Flint) Ford, 1975; James Golubich, 1947; Theodore “Ted” Pedas, 1949; James Pedas, 1947; Dr. Robert Peel, M.D., 1960; Dr. Samuel G. Sava, 1949; Kathy (Yankevich) Bialk, 1979; Rosemarie Scarmack, 1949; Frank Sincek, 1959; and the late school superintendent Louis J. Morocco, 1938.

    The Rev. Sam Childers will speak on "Miracles in Sudan" at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in Slippery Rock University Union Multi-Purpose Room. All are welcome to the free event. He has performed rescue work in southern Sudan and northern Uganda.

    reunion of state champs


    A group of Sharpsville residents, in cooperation with the borough and school district, is planning a 10th anniversary reunion of the school’s 1997 PIAA Class A state football championship team. The event, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1, will feature a parade before the game, tail-gating before the game, introductions during the game, and a reception after the game at Muscarella’s Café Italia.
