I get the greatest pleasure watching my guy play with his 2-year-old grandson Noah. The two of them love to wrestle and play with toy animals and throw stones and sticks and I’m not sure which one has more fun.
Being a positive influence on his grandson’s life is of utmost importance to “Puppa” because he knows he won’t live forever and wants to be sure that he leaves wonderful memories for Noah to draw from if he’s ever at a low point in his life.
I know that many women have been positively influenced by a father, grandfather, uncle or big brother, so between the covers of the June edition will be many familiar faces once again, but more male than female ones, all with stories of interest to readers of both genders.
Like Art To Wear designer Dan DeSantis of Sharpsville, who shares his story and his artistic creations in this Wednesday’s edition; or former Bellboy Vic Rangel of Ellwood City, an entertaining crooner with a Motown spin. And try New Wilmington resident J. Samuel Whiting’s grilling recipes and tips for summertime eating.
Take Dad to the 100th Bomb Group Restaurant in Cleveland and get a little history about World War II along with great food; learn about Hampton, Va., and its place in history; and get a little golf history and tips from John Kerins, owner of Tam O’ Shanter in Hermitage.
Enjoy the tongue-in-cheek “High School Guide to Breaking Up” from teen contributor Paige Polesnak or try making a hanging beach collage with beach vacation treasures by contributor Patti Chisholm of Liberty Township; or, more seriously, read about a single mother dealing with her own personal loss involving sickle cell anemia or get some financial marital advice from Dr. Dan Materna of Hermitage.
I read with interest Rev. Cherrie Andres’ “Her Spirit” offering – the positive role models of her father and grandfather that led to her spiritual calling and reminded me to remember those positive male role models in our lives.
Which brings me back to the June edition of V&V.
It’s our way of saluting men who make a wonderful difference every day in the lives of their daughters, wives and sisters –– our readers.
Happy Father’s Day!
