Mrs. John

Agnes M. DeSalvo John, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, formerly of Grove City, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage, after a three-year illness. She was 79.

Mrs. John was born June 10, 1926, in Farrell to Aniello and Teresa Bumbaco DeSalvo.

A 1944 alumna of Grove City High School, she retired as head cashier from the former Kroger’s grocery store in Grove City, where she worked for 22 years. Mrs. John was honored as Cashier of the Year in 1960.

As a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City, she was a past president of the Altar Society.

Mrs. John was an avid bowler and golfer, having achieved a hole-in-one on Oct. 9, 1991. She was a member of Slippery Rock Golf League.

Her husband, Dominic P. “Mickey” John, whom she married May 3, 1969, passed away Feb. 16, 2000.

Surviving is a sister, Mary J. Cagno and her husband Carl, Sharon, formerly of Grove City; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Attilio, Orlando, Orlando and Frank DeSalvo; and four sisters, Adelaide Garofoli, Marie DeSalvo, Amelia Sotus and Pauline DeSalvo.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday (6-11-06) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday (6-12-06) in Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, with Monsignor Edward J. Zeitler, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
