POQUOSON, Va. — Beatrice Eleanor Zellers, Poquoson, formerly of Yorktown, Va., passed away of natural causes Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Dominion Village of Poquoson. She was 87.

Born on June 24, 1918 in Youngstown, Mrs. Zellers was a daughter of Elmer “Al” A. and Ruth A. Jarl Snavely.

She graduated in 1936 from Boardman (Ohio) High School and in 1940 earned a degree in secondary education from what is now Youngstown State University.

She was a member of YSU Alumni Association.

Bea was an operator until she retired at the main switchboard at her beloved YSU.

Bea cared for her mother, Ruth, for a number of years after retiring. She placed her children and grandchildren as the center of her life, taking interest in what each of her grandchildren was doing.

She lived the past 11 years with her daughter, Carol Johnson, and her family. The two were constant companions.

Whenever Bea sat down, you would find her working on a crossword puzzle. She also enjoyed traveling. Bea was a friend to anyone who needed one and was always the first one to offer a helping hand.

Survivors include: two daughters, Carol Johnson and her husband Jerry, Yorktown; and Charlene Nibley and her husband Dave, Columbia, Md.; her son, Bobby Zellers and his wife Patti, Mercer; seven grandchildren, Daiquiri Davidson and her husband Ryan; Jason Johnson and his wife Michelle; Amber and Beth Wilson and Derek Zellers; Shannon Brown and her husband Dave; and Robyn Lohr and her husband Jamie; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron Shardy, RyLee Brown and Kolbe Lohr.

Mrs. Zellers was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.

The family would like to express their deep-felt thanks to all the marvelous friends, neighbors and extended family at Dominion Village of Poquoson, who made her passing so wonderful.
