A pair of young great horned owls watch over a Lowe's garden center from atop a pair of pallets in Mankato, Minn. Three chicks have been calling the pallets home this spring until one hopped off of them and had to be moved to a nearby tree by a member of the University of Minnesota Raptor Center. Lowe's employees who have been watching the young raptors with interest say the mother has been close by until recently and hasn't bothered shoppers looking for spring flowers. The pair left the pallets sometime in the last week.Â

Raymond Martin works on the roof of the historic Saint John's Lutheran Church in Goshen, Ind. Thursday. The roof of the church was badly damaged in a storm last summer and through donations a group of area residents who preserve the land raised, with help from a grant from Indiana Landmarks. Martin, who is Old Order Amish, along with his son Lynn, have worked to get the roof covered ahead of forecasted rain Friday. The St. John's Lutheran Church Association has purchased cedar shingles which will be installed on the church soon.
