YMCA hosting carnival for ‘Family Fun Day’



HERMITAGE — A “Family Fun Day Carnival” is set for noon to 4 p.m. July 29 at Shenango Valley YMCA, 925 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

Along with help from the Party Zone for Kids and local churches, activities will include a giant inflatable bouncer and slide, inflatable jousting arena, toddler zone, carnival games, food, prizes, crafts and baked goods.

Local churches can take part by selling crafts, baked goods or providing carnival-like games.

Play passes will be $5. Special discounted membership rates will be offered and tours of the facility will be given.

The following three weeks, the YMCA will be hold its Super Sports Day Camp for those entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Each week of the camp will focus on a different sport.

Campers will be broken down into age-appropriate groups for afternoon activities. Camp is offered by the week, full or half day and a special three-week rate.

Jennings Center slates pair of programs



SLIPPERY ROCK — Jennings Environmental Education Center, near Slippery Rock, will host these events:

• “Get Out and Get Fit” — 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 25 and Aug. 29. Fitness concepts will be discussed before a one-hour, 2 1/2-mile fitness walk along the center’s trails. Participants should bring water and wear study, comfortable shoes for walking.

• “Jennings Prairie Bloom” — 2 p.m. July 29 and Aug. 5 starting in the prairie parking area. Participants should dress appropriately for walking in unshaded areas.

Grove City College to test emergency siren again



GROVE CITY –– At 1 p.m. July 17, Grove City College will conduct a two-hour, intermittent test for an emergency notification system on its campus, for the second time.

The system is an audible system capable of producing a warning signal to Grove City College students, which could be heard on the campus in its entirety. This test will sound completely different from the test conducted last month, and will not be similar in sound to the system the borough uses.
