Church to observe 15th anniversary Sunday

SHARON – Join Pastor Donna Heard, Associate Pastor Teresa Jefferson and the church family of Word Centered Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 710 Carnegie St., for the 15th year church anniversary Sunday.

During the service at 10 a.m., there will be a sharing of the history by Jefferson. There will be various testaments from: Elder Deborah Campbell, Elder Darryl and Sister Karen Torrence, Elder Faye Golden, Deaconess Rochelle Borders, Sister Constance Wright, and Sister Lauriethel Ward.

A sermonette will be given by Pastor Heard: “We walk by Faith!” At 5 p.m. there will be a guest speaker, Pastor T. James Harrison, a special guest, Psalmist Tammi Harrison, the musical department and church family of Valley Baptist Church, Farrell.

The evening will feature M. C. Apostle Rev. Patricia Tatum of New Life Covenant Church, Sharon.

Light refreshments will follow.

First Presbyterian hires new organist

SHARON –  Julliard-trained organist and pianist Nicole Cochran has been appointed as the new organist and accompanist at First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St.

She will play for regular Sunday services and accompany the Sanctuary Choir and many soloists who contribute to the music ministry. She will also present organ recitals. Come join in worship and hear Nicole play Sunday. Services are at 10:30 a.m.

She brings a wealth of talent and church music experience to First Presbyterian. She holds a bachelor of music degree in organ performance from the Julliard School, New York, and a master of music degree from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ.

Prior to her appointment at First Presbyterian, she served as organist for Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, director of music for Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Philadelphia, and organist for Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York.

“We warmly welcome Nicole to First Presbyterian and look forward to the great experience she brings and wonderful musical contributions she has to offer here,” said Stephen Barr, director of music.

Villa Maria offers evening of prayer

VILLA MARIA – Come for an evening of p rayer at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen Road, in the Magnificat Chapel.

With open and ecumenical hearts, gather around the cross for prayer in the tradition of the ecumenical monastery of Taizé, France. This Christian interdenominational prayer form includes music, scripture, and silence.

The theme is “Ordinary Time,” and music director is Brenda Kostial.

Light refreshments and an opportunity for fellowship follow the prayer service.

Taizé Prayer is funded through the generosity of an anonymous donor. Future program dates are Dec. 5, March 12 and May 7.

Church to observe World Communion

SHARON – Sharon First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., holds World Communion on Sunday.

Worship services at 9 and 11 a.m.; breakfast at 9:30 a.m.; and Youth Church School and Adult Church School at 10 a.m.

Trinity Presbyterian to mark World Communion

MERCER — Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Market St., will join other Christians around the world in celebrating Holy Communion during the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

Originating in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside Presbyterian Church in 1933 and adopted by the Federal Council of Churches In 1940, the event on the first Sunday of October has grown into an international ecumenical celebration of Christian unity.

Included in the service will be both traditional and contemporary songs, responses, and instrumental music from countries around the world.

The church’s worship band and adult choir will join to sing “Processional Hallelujah,” an anthem written in 2018 combining Native American and Cameroon melodies.

Adult-supervised child care is provided by the church, which is accessible to all.

Blue Army of Our Lady meets Saturday

HERMITAGE – The Blue Army of Our Lady meets Saturday after the 9 a.m. Mass at Notre Dame Parish, in the Founders’ Room, 2325 Highland Road.

Free concert showcases Southern gospel music

SHARPSVILLE – First Baptist Church of Sharpsville, 185 Union Ave., will host a free concert of Southern gospel music by Ron Elrod at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11.

Ron is an accomplished pianist, vocalist and composer, and has shared the stage with such well-known artists as The Cathedral Quartet, J.D. Sumer and the Stamps Quartet, Dottie Rambo, Bill Gaither, The Statesman Quartet, The Blackwood Brothers, the Imperials and others.

The concert is free, but an offering will be received for his ministry.

Award-winning singer to perform in Stoneboro

STONEBORO – Dove Award-winning singer and songwriter Mitchell McVicker will perform live at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at Emmanuel Christian Church, 4495 Greenville-Sandy Lake Road.

Mitchell’s career began in 1995 and has since spanned 11 albums and two DVDs, an appearance as himself and a song in the movie “Ragamuffin,” and more than 2,000 concerts in 49 states and 13 countries.

Admission is free, and a love offering will be taken in support of his ministry.

Hermitage church holds Blessing of the Animals

HERMITAGE – Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Morefield Road, will hold Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church pavilion.

Refreshments will follow the blessing.

Orangeville Baptist slates services, Bible study

SHARPSVILLE – Orangeville Baptist Church, 7600 Orangeville Road in Sharpsville, will hold Sunday school for all ages at 10 a.m. Sunday. Worship will be at 11 a.m. A Bible study and evening prayer are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The church reminds the community that it is always collecting food for its food pantry.

The church will hold a free clothing giveaway and some household items from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Anyone in need is welcome.

Pastor Harley’s wife, Andrea, will host a five-week women’s Bible study titled “Unshamed,” written by Christine Cain at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 and continue through Dec. 17. Contact her at the church so study guides can be ordered.
