MERCER – The Mercer Area School District’s new school calendar and information guide is now online.

For the 49th consecutive year, residents of the Mercer Area School District can refer to the district-wide calendar to keep abreast of expected testing dates, vacation days, and activities involving students and organizations in the district.

However, those accessing the document on the school district website at will note that only the months of August and September are included at this time. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, printing month by month will enable the school to provide as accurate a calendar as possible, according to calendar compiler James Sankey. At the bottom of the published month’s page, a list of expected events for the following month will allow planning time for students and parents, he added.

A link will be provided for those wishing to see the latest sports schedules.

The calendar, which starts on Aug. 1, also includes a 15-page section of information on district policies.

Superintendent Dr. Ronald R. Rowe, Jr. said that district residents who do not have access to a computer or would prefer a printed copy may contact the district’s central office, which will print a copy that can be picked up in the central office.

“Accuracy is always a concern every year,” Sankey said, “and that accuracy is even more challenging this year. Changes often occur due to circumstances, opportunities, and weather, and this year we have the added concern of the pandemic.”

The first day of classes for students is scheduled for Aug. 25, preceded by teacher in-service days on Aug. 19-24.
