Democrat Alliance

GREENVILLE – Dale Haws, chairman of Northwest Democrat Alliance, welcomed members and guests to a meeting devoted to the Bob Casey campaign for U.S. Senate.

Sadie Sterner from the Casey office in Pittsburgh updated the group on his bus stops to various areas. Lou Razzano spoke on his trip to Butler Fairgrounds, where members and other candidates showed their support.

The unit will participate in a number of fairs and parades through the summer. Candy fund donations are urged.

Charlie Rice, who is representing 19 counties for the AFL-CIO, announced the group will make endorsements July 27 in Harrisburg. The state group endorsed Casey.

Clayton Wukich, a state coordinator in the John Kerry presidential campaign, invited members to a picnic at 6:30 p.m. July 28 at his farm in Slippery Rock.

Other announcements:

• Mercer County NWDA will host the Second Annual Crawford/Mercer County Picnic at Pymatuning Park in September.

• NWDA hats are available at $5 each, courtesy of Jim Pirko.

• Tickets for the signed Mario Lemieux jersey are available at $3 each or two for $5 from members or by calling Sandy Laurie at 724-932-5717. Tickets can be mailed to those out of the area.

• July 22 — 10 a.m., Democrat Women of Mercer County meeting in Shenango Valley Senior Center, Hermitage; and 6 p.m., Art Allen’s gathering in Lake Latonka Community Room.

• Aug. 14 — 7 p.m., next meeting of NWDA in Cianci’s Down Under, Greenville.

• Sept. 14 — 5 to 7 p.m., fundraiser for Steve Porter in Natili’s Restaurant, Butler. Cost: $35 per person.

Westinghouse Retirees

SHARON — Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association were reminded of the annual picnic on Aug. 9 at the Shriner’s picnic area, Lamor Road. Members may pay at the door.

Drinks begin at 1 p.m. and food, 4 p.m. until all are served.
