Hermitage Historical Society

The Hermitage Historical Society Board met at 6 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the Stewart House. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the board voted to cancel the annual Christmas Tree Tour open houses for 2020.

The society will host a fall- and Christmas-themed flea market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 9 and 10 at the Stewart House at 5465 E. State St., Hermitage.


Alpha Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma

The Alpha Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma had its first 2020-2022 Biennium meeting on Aug. 29 at an open shelter at Pearson Park in New Castle. The executive board meeting preceded the chapter meeting. Members practiced social distancing and wore masks. Chapter Let’s Raise our Cup of Tea to Celebrate Birthday “63” favors were made by President Kosior to celebrate the chapter’s 63rd birthday. Members brought their own lunch and beverage. Dessert was a chapter birthday cake donated by President Karin Kosior.

Yvonne Chichin, Scholarship Chairman, presented the chapter’s annual $1,000 Caroline Daverio Grant-In-Aid Scholarship to Lauren de Caussin. Miss de Caussin is a junior student from Slippery Rock University majoring in Elementary Education and Special Education.

Ruth Leone, Projects Chairman, collected school supplies and bookbags from members. Items will be donated to the Mercer County Children’s Aid Society.

Chapter members donated money and household and cleaning supplies to the Crisis Shelter. Linda Morrison, 1st Vice President, and Carol McKnight, visited the Crisis Shelter to present the supplies and a check to Deborah Hennon, Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County Executive Director.

A fall lunch meeting will be on Saturday at Edward’s Restaurant on their outside patio in New Castle.
