Local residents were among those honored this spring at Slippery Rock University.

These students qualified to be presidential scholars, based on overall grade point average and meeting minimum required credit hours:

Seniors — Michelle Lutz, accounting major from Hermitage; and Kathleen Jack, history major; and Angela K. Peck, elementary education major, both from Mercer.

Juniors — Emily J. Elder, math major from Volant; and Rachelle R. Scherer, art major from Grove City.

Sophomore — Carrie L. Moore, art major from Mercer.

Emily Elder earned the Coen Family Foundation, Leadership in Science and Janice Sharek Hogue Memorial scholarships; and Outstanding Mathematics Junior awards.

Gina Stalma, an anthropology major from New Wilmington, received the Anthropology Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.

Jessica Speer, a social work major from New Wilmington, earned the Michael J. McMullen Award for Outstanding Service to the Social Work Program.

Katie Leigh Herman, a sociology-criminology major from Grove City, earned a “Captain Jim” Unterwagner Scholarship.

Leah Roskos, Sharon, was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta English honor society.
