THINGS TO DO
• Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the Hermitage Goodfellows are no longer seeking volunteers for their packing work day on Christmas Eve.
• The Jennings Environmental Education Center, Slippery Rock, is holding a New Year, New Views Self-Guided Walkabout.
As the new year approaches (and perhaps especially this year) people often reflect on events of the past and look to the future in anticipation of what lies ahead. In nature and the outdoors, we can find inspirational lessons for this time of transition.
From Saturday through Jan. 8, visitors can take time to reflect on these lessons during a special, limited-time walkabout at Jennings.
This exploration will not only showcase some of the best scenery of the park but will highlight insights into rest, resilience, hope, and more, as visitors view and contemplate the flora, fauna, water, and winds of change around them.
A free 12-stop guide and map to the stops will be available at park brochure racks, in the park office, or electronically by request. Routes of various lengths are possible. For questions, or to request an electronic guide, contact Jennings at 724-794-6011 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
As a precaution against COVID-19 all in-person programs have been canceled and the exhibit area/classroom is closed until further notice.
All trails will remain open. The park office and the nature shop will be open and the center side restrooms can be accessed from the back doors of the building weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closing early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day)
Masks are required to enter all buildings. Masks are not required while hiking alone on the trails but it’s suggested to have one with you in case you encounter other hikers.
